'GIU GIU', a brand founded by Giuliana Leila Raggiani in 2013, is based in two cities: Los Angeles and Paris. The brand is popular for its playful, free design and quality knitwear that transcends age and gender.
This time, with designer Giuliana's visit to Japan for a pop-up held at Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, an impromptu interview was conducted. Here is an inside scoop about how she launched the brand and her dedication to quality and design from Giuliana herself.
Knitting from Thread to Fabric
The knitwear brand 'GIU GIU' emits a nostalgic atmosphere and reflects the rich background of its designer, Giuliana. How did she establish the brand? Giuliana had this to say.
"In 2008, I moved to New York to study at Parsons School of Design and in 2010, I studied the knitwear program at Central Saint Martins in London.
"Afterwards, I gained experience working at fashion labels like 'Alexander Wang' and 'Anthropologie', and from there, I got the chance from the Anthropologie director to go to Europe for knitwear research. After that, the director suggested that I start my own label, and that's when I launched my own brand 'GIU GIU' in 2013."
When she first started the brand, she began with a small collection of hand-knit knitwear, but she has been conscious of unisex style from that time.
