The outdoor sports label, 'adidas TERREX', developed by Adidas, supports athletes challenging their limits in sports such as climbing, trail running, and fast hiking. These high-performance products help athletes maximize their performance under severe outdoor conditions and have received numerous awards in the US and UK.
Along with the buzz generated from its collaboration with 'and wander', it has gathered support from outdoor enthusiasts. We joined a try-on session to experience the latest products from 'adidas TERREX'. Here's our report.

'adidas TERREX' served as the official partner of the trail running event 'Fun Trails Round Chichibu & Okumusashi', which was held over November 18th and 19th, 2023. The try-on session also took place in the mountains of Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, which was the same venue for the event. It rained continuously from early morning on the day, but it might have been the perfect condition to experience the functionality of 'adidas TERREX' shoes and wear that can handle the rain.

Hiking Shoes You can Walk Comfortably in, Even in Rain

The first shoes we tried at the try-on session were the 'TERREX FREE HIKER 2.0 GORE-TEX HIKING'. These are designed for use on long trails and hiking with little altitude difference.
The midsole uses the BOOST foam, known for its cushioning and rebound properties in Adidas running shoes. The outsole implements the Continental rubber, known for securing traction on both dry and wet surfaces. It is also equipped with a GORE-TEX membrane, which provides a high level of waterproofness, windbreak ability, and breathability, keeping the inside of the shoes comfortable even in the rain.

Rina Aoki, a guest at the try-on session and a trail coach for Adidas Runners Tokyo, had this to say about the appeal of the 'TERREX FREE HIKER 2.0 GORE-TEX HIKING.'

'Many people may imagine mountaineering boots to be stiff, but thanks to the BOOST foam, landing is very soft in the FREE HIKER. It is a versatile shoe, with no stiffness or weight. Besides hiking, you may find it useful in other scenarios like camping or as daily footwear.'

Each shoe weighs 455g (in 27cm), making it lightweight for mid-cut hiking shoes. The one-piece construction of the upper and the tongue provides a unified feel between foot and shoe, and also prevents pebbles and other debris from entering the shoe.

We walked through a muddy trail in rain (mainly flat without rocky paths) and the inside remained dry, with no rainwater seepage. We walked through mud and puddles with no worries. It didn't feel stiff or heavy even on asphalt, and given its simple design, it certainly could be versatile as city footwear.

Trail Running Shoes that Road Runners can Wear Comfortably

The other pair of shoes we tried in the try-on session were the 'TERREX AGRAVIC FLOW GORE-TEX TRAIL RUNNING 2.0'. These are trail running shoes developed for intermediates and experts. The midsole utilizes Lightstrike, known for its high rebound properties in Adidas running shoes. Similar to the 'FREE HIKER', the outsole uses Continental rubber. Being equipped with a GORE-TEX membrane means you can confidently put these shoes on in wet weather conditions.
