Alice Potts: Fashion Accessories Made with Biotechnology & Sweat Crystals
In the field of fusion between fashion and biotechnology, Alice Potts is gaining attention for her innovative approach. After graduating from the Royal College of Art and undertaking a residency at the Onassis Foundation in Athens, she has become a specialist in biological materials. Her unique methodology has caught the attention not only of the fashion industry, but also of multiple media outlets including Vogue Germany, i-D, Dazed, and WIRED. We had a chance to speak with Alice herself about her upbringing and the process leading to the creation of sweat crystals.
An Interest in Science
Alice Potts, who links fashion and biotechnology, grew up with her twin brother in various cultural environments, including Yokohama. She initially had a strong interest in science and mathematics, but later shifted to textiles and fashion, beginning to build a career at the intersection of science and art. Reflecting on this, she comments, "As a child, I was a bit lost... I was drawn to science, but I was also attracted to the allure of textiles.
