Determining Nasolabial Folds by Wrinkle (Groove) Depth & Cheek Swelling: Kao Makeup Research Laboratory
Worried about nasolabial folds as you age? You're not alone. Many people are curious about how to make them less noticeable. The Kao Makeup Research Laboratory is devoted to studying nasolabial folds from every angle.
Collaborating with TWANY, the lab researched "What makes nasolabial folds conspicuous to the human eye?" They discovered that not only wrinkles (grooves) but also cheek swelling plays a role in their visibility.
Reflecting this research, they launched "TWANY Dramatic Memory" in September 2022. They also developed a digital tool called "Nasolabial Fold AI FINDER (ほうれい線 AI FINDER)" for users to easily check the visibility type of their nasolabial folds.
This time, we spoke with researchers Naoko Ikeda, Aki Nishino, and Masayuki Iida from the Kao Makeup Research Laboratory about the research on nasolabial folds that led to the development of these products.
