MIRAISOZAI Inc. has developed a new material called "AIR✕AIR." Unlike conventional functional fabrics, it was created with a novel approach focusing on "air." In fact, "AIR✕AIR" was created by the same developer behind the high-performance material "SHELTECH®."

We spoke with the company's CEO, Yoshitaka Matsui, who developed "SHELTECH®" at his former company, about the patent-pending technology behind "AIR✕AIR" and the future this material holds for the textile industry.

Yoshitaka Matsui

1997–2010: Mastered the ABCs of product and material development in the product department at Asahiya in Nagoya.

2010–2022: Joined Saragai Iryo, then a sewing factory, where he learned the ins and outs of garment sewing and material sourcing. He drove the development of unique fabrics to set the company apart. From 2012, he served as a director, providing management support.

April 2022–Present: Founded MIRAISOZAI Inc. to develop innovative new fabrics and yarns focused on high heat-shielding properties and superior comfort.

An Innovative Idea to Overcome the Drawbacks of Synthetic Fibers

A texture that doesn't look sporty, even with enhanced functionality

Matsui founded MIRAISOZAI Inc. driven by a pressing concern: the gradual loss of technology from Japan's outstanding textile factories. In the fashion industry, synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon have been prized for their specific functions, primarily in sportswear. However, a common drawback was the distinct sheen that appeared when these functions were added.

"Our goal was to achieve a natural texture and feel, much like premium cotton, while still delivering high performance," Matsui explains. "We've been on a quest for a material that integrates effortlessly into daily fashion."
