Cyberpunk Fashion as Formal Wear in VR: Masks, Cyborgs, Armor Suits
Entering the 2020s, a new form of fashion known as 'dressing up your avatar' appeared in the metaverse. One movement symbolizing this chaotic fervor is the 'convention' culture taking place in VRChat. Enthusiasts from all over the world access a closed server, display their unique avatars, and converse with each other. There's an ambiance as if one is in a bizarre social scene birthed from a pandemic.
Among these conventions, there is one that is profoundly deep.
'Cyberpunk Conventions', where cybernetics, transforming into non-human forms, and giant avatars are all commonplace. Amid decaying structures, neon advertisements, and post-apocalyptic scenery reminiscent of the movie 'Blade Runner', custom avatar modifications and experimental original avatars clash in a stunning, provocative display. Of course, the data consumption is excessively heavy-duty.
In this article, we've interviewed DJ⑨, the organizer of 'Cyberpunk Conventions'. We've included numerous images showcasing the unique styling of previous participants. By doing so, we hope to better understand the revolutionaries of avatar fashion happening in the virtual world right now.
