The Evolutionary Evolution of the Casio G-SHOCK 'MT-G', a Beloved Model Across Generations

2023.02.02
Launched in 1999 from the 'G-SHOCK', a watch that claims to be robust enough not to break even when dropped, is the adult G-SHOCK 'MT-G' series. Why was the combined model of metal and resin, the 'MT-G' series, developed, and how has the 'MT-G' evolved? We spoke to Takayasu Akagi, the chief of the G Design Room, the First Design Department of the Casio Design Development Division, about the birth and evolution of the 'MT-G', including introducing the latest works.

The Beginning of 'MT-G' Started from a New Idea for Shock-Resistant Design

'G-SHOCK', synonymous with toughness watches, was explosively popular in the 90s. The introduction of metal models further highlighted its innovative nature. Merging two materials, metal, and resin, to form an adult G-SHOCK, the 'MT-G' series was born. Akagi, who has been involved in the design from the first 'MT-G', the 'GC-2000', spoke about the birth of the series.
