Skin elasticity and firmness symbolize youthfulness. Elastin, an elastic fiber that bundles collagen in the skin's dermis like rubber, plays a key role. FANCL Corporation, which has conducted independent research since 2016, announced new findings.
Utilizing German medical equipment to visualize elastin fibers within the skin, they successfully captured the actual condition of the skin, marking the first industry discovery of age-related changes in elastin fibers. Moreover, they also achieved quantification of these changes.
What are the key points for maintaining elastin fibers in good condition? And what is the numerical evaluation method that can visualize the current state? We spoke with Naoko Ozawa and Shinya Kondo from the Comprehensive Research Institute, Beauty Science Research Center, who are in charge of this research at FANCL.

What is the Shape of Elastin Fibers that Change with Age?

"Collagen, which makes up most of the dermis, is bundled by elastin, which is inelastic and hard. Think of it like rubber," said Ozawa.
