The fashion industry is continuously making various efforts to aim for a sustainable society. In addition to recycling and reusing, we have started to hear more about upcycling. Furthermore, did you know that mutual initiatives across different industries are now being developed?
One of these is the ‘FOOD TEXTILE’ project developed by Toyoshima & Co., Ltd. This project extracts dye from discarded food, uses it to dye threads and fabrics, and even produces clothes. It's probably a circular structure made possible precisely because they are a trading company that comprehensively handles fashion.
What's fascinating is why they focused on food. What's behind the cross-industry effort? This time, we delved deeper into the efforts of the FOOD TEXTILE project by speaking with Riho Tsuzuki, a member of the FOOD TEXTILE project, and Eiji Miyao, the Sales Department Manager.
