This year, ‘501®’ is celebrating its 150th anniversary. In commemoration of this extraordinary milestone, special items have been released. We had a conversation with Yuki Ishimoto from Levi Strauss Japan Corporation about the ‘501®’ 150th anniversary, the history of Levi's®, and the present.
"Levi's® was founded in 1853 and originally started as work clothes for coal mine workers. At that time, a tailor named Jacob Davis, who was interested in Denim, and the founder, Levi Strauss, decided to move forward with the production of Denim.
"Jacob Davis had been studying rivets for denim reinforcement around pockets and other areas, and in 1890, he patented the Denim using this. These rivets are one of the highlights of the '501®'."
