Fashion and the body are inextricably linked. But can the fashion that floods the world truly accommodate all bodies? Are standard sizes like S, M, and L really enough?
Addressing this issue at its core is SOLIT Co., Ltd., which operates the fashion brand "SOLIT!" SOLIT aims to achieve an all-inclusive society, offering fully custom-made fashion products to people with diverse body types.
We conducted an interview with Misaki Tanaka, CEO of SOLIT, to learn about the innovations and challenges involved in making fashion possible for diverse bodies.

Enjoying Fashion

Can you tell us about the background of starting SOLIT?
Originally, I had a plus-size body type in Japan. I often felt self-conscious trying on clothes in fitting rooms, thinking, "I really want to wear cute clothes, but I can’t because of my body."
During this time, I felt societal pressure to lose weight or to look cute just to fit into these clothes. Hence, I didn't really get to enjoy fashion.
Recently, I returned to graduate school and met classmates including former wheelchair basketball players and individuals with religious constraints on clothing. I realized that many people face limitations in their fashion choices due to disabilities, religion, or sexuality, which have nothing to do with their personality, preferences, or self-expression.
