MONKYO

MONKYO
Introduction

MONKYO

The fabric becomes a musical instrument, filling an entire space with sound. The knit fabric speaker, jointly developed by ZOZO NEXT and Kyoto-based Poiesis Labs, is an innovative speaker that achieves a soft yet resonant sound by embedding organic piezoelectric film into knit material. This achievement took shape as the installation piece “Monkyo”, showcased at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. Traditional Japanese patterns and water ripples merged seamlessly with sound, creating an immersive experience that stimulated both sight and hearing, and drew significant attention. Looking ahead, the potential of this speaker extends beyond art, reaching into everyday life and urban spaces.
