A New Breed of Lightweight, Max-Cushion Shoes! What Is the Adidas Hyperboost Edge?

2026.05.12
Adidas has unveiled a new model, the HYPERBOOST EDGE, equipped with a groundbreaking material, HYPERBOOST PRO FOAM, that delivers a bouncy, energetic feel to the soles of your feet.
BOOST is the high-rebound foam material that Adidas is renowned for. The "Ultraboost" series has long been a favorite among casual runners and a streetwear staple. And when it comes to lifestyle running shoes from Adidas, the smash-hit "ADIZERO EVO SL" is impossible to ignore.
So, where exactly does the new "Hyperboost Edge" fit into this lineup?

A Next-Gen Running Shoe Designed for the Pure Joy of Running

"With the launch of the Hyperboost Edge, we've established a new franchise alongside Adizero and Supernova. It's a franchise that isn't solely aimed at improving speed and performance, but one that a wider range of people can enjoy," says Yusuke Ota from Adidas Japan K.K.
The "Adizero" series is developed for runners who want to get faster, with a lineup ranging from elite racing models to shoes for high-quality training. The "Supernova" series is a collection created to make daily runs comfortable and enjoyable.
The new "Hyperboost Edge," however, is a model designed for the lifestyle running culture, engineered with the goal of creating a shoe that amplifies the feeling of "fun." Although it bears the "Boost" name, it represents a completely new concept, distinct from the previous "Boost" series.
"From a runner's perspective, it falls into the 'super trainer' category. But our quest to maximize the fun of running led us to create a shoe that boasts lightness, a bouncy feel, and plush cushioning," Ota explains.
In a joint study by Cologne University and Adidas, 73% of 60 runners praised the bouncy rebound of the "Hyperboost Edge," and 77% felt its soft cushioning. Furthermore, more than half rated it as comfortable, reporting that it led to a better and more enjoyable running experience.

Cutting-Edge Technology That Fuels the Fun

The secret behind the "Hyperboost Edge's" bouncy ride is the HYPERBOOST PRO FOAM used in the midsole. This new cushioning foam was developed by leveraging the expertise gained from speed-focused racing shoes like the "Adizero" series, delivering a uniquely springy sensation underfoot.
"HYPERBOOST PRO FOAM is also an incredibly lightweight material. The Hyperboost Edge is a max-cushion model with a 45mm heel and a 39mm forefoot, but as you'll notice just by holding it, its lightness is deceptive. This weightlessness is another key element that contributes to the 'fun' factor."
The outsole features LIGHTTRAXION, which combines lightweight performance with excellent grip and high abrasion resistance. It runs the full length of the shoe, from heel to toe.
The upper is made from soft, lightweight PRIMEWEAVE. A gusseted tongue structure, which connects the tongue to the upper, ensures a snug and secure fit. Additionally, the heel pod gently cradles the heel, creating a seamless connection between your foot and the shoe.
The midsole features the lightweight and highly responsive HYPERBOOST PRO FOAM.
The outsole is fully equipped with LIGHTTRAXION.
The design of the heel pod is also a standout feature.

A Sleek Design Inspired by Industrial Aesthetics

A key part of the "Hyperboost Edge's" appeal is its design, which breaks the mold of traditional running shoes. Its minimalist silhouette, inspired by industrial design, and its simple, sophisticated look are poised to make it a favorite not only for running but for everyday streetwear as well.
"A notable feature of the Hyperboost Edge is that it's the first Adidas running footwear to place the iconic Three Stripes on the midsole," Ota points out.
The concealed lacing system is another distinctive touch. A shoe with a design that's easy to wear outside of running naturally has a wider range of uses. This makes it a great option for those who are hesitant to buy dedicated running shoes because they don't run often.
In fact, its appealing design might just be the motivation needed to run more frequently. You could say it's a shoe that lowers the barrier to entry for running.

Shoes for a Light and Enjoyable Run

Sliding your foot in, you immediately feel a secure fit. The midfoot, in particular, is securely held, making it feel like your foot and the shoe are one cohesive unit. What truly stands out while running is the pleasant bounce. Unlike previous BOOST foams, HYPERBOOST PRO FOAM has less sink-in, promoting a more rhythmic stride.
You might worry about stability with a 45mm heel height and no carbon plate, but the wide sole provides a large contact area with the ground, and the LIGHTTRAXION outsole grips the surface firmly, so you don't feel any instability. Thanks to its high energy return, great responsiveness, and a lightweight design tipping the scales at just around 255g (for a single 27cm shoe) despite its super-stacked sole, you can glide forward with ease.
Highly recommended for those who want a fun and comfortable run.
At the shoe's launch, Patrick Nava, General Manager of Adidas Running, stated, "The Hyperboost Edge is a shoe that truly embodies the \"Power of Three,\" integrating cushioning, energy return, and agility into a single package.
By fusing these three elements without compromise, we've created a \"super trainer\" that feels light underfoot, delivers high rebound with every step, and provides cushioned support upon landing. It supports every type of runner, no matter the distance." And true to his word, it is indeed a shoe for a light and enjoyable run.
