The Cutting Edge of Coolness × Comfort: A Complete Look at Aeon's Summer Functional Innerwear "Peace Fit Cool"

Functional innerwear has become an inseparable part of our daily lives in recent years. The evolution has been remarkable, with a wide range of features—including cool-to-the-touch, antibacterial and deodorizing properties, moisture absorption and release, and quick-drying sweat-wicking capabilities.

From Aeon's private brand TopValu, the functional innerwear line Peace Fit Cool is also being developed. Drawing on years of expertise, their rich lineup is a standout feature—but what exactly are their distinctive functions?

We spoke with merchandiser Nobuyoshi Fukuda and developer Jun Ishida to find out more.

The "Peace Fit" series was created with the concept of “comfort so good, it feels like happiness,” offering a wide variety of products tailored to different seasons and temperatures. Among them, the summer-oriented "Peace Fit Cool" focuses on maximized comfort control. The lineup currently features four main series.

"In material development, we’ve teamed up with Toyobo Textile Co., Ltd. from the development and modification of cotton, creating fabrics that realize our targeted functionality."

Now, let’s take a closer look at the "Peace Fit Cool" lineup. The Saratto Dry line focuses on “no skin cling” and uses a cotton blend to maximize everyday comfort.

"We also use different knitting methods inside and outside the fabric: the skin-facing side absorbs sweat while the outer side releases moisture, and a flat construction keeps the material looking sleek so you don’t get that 'underwear look' even if it peeks out."

The polyester yarn contains minerals with high thermal conductivity, so you’ll feel cool when the fabric touches your skin.

Next up is the Peace Fit Cool Extra Cool to the Touch, designed specifically for cool touch. The main fabric blends stretchable polyurethane with nylon so it moves with your body.

This yarn also contains naturally occurring minerals with high thermal conductivity. The fabric is carefully knitted to ensure heat from your body disperses evenly across the garment for a stronger cool touch. Compared to the Saratto Dry, the type and blending ratio of minerals has been adjusted to deliver the coldest feel in the brand’s lineup.

And finally, for those who want a cotton-based summer innerwear, there’s the Peace Fit Cool 100% Cotton. Using 100% organic cotton, it delivers both functionality and a gentle feel against your skin.

To enhance comfort, a spinning method is used to wrap the fuzz on the yarn’s surface inside, suppressing fuzz and creating a smooth feel on the skin. Of course, just like other products in the lineup, it possesses exceptional features including contact cooling, sweat-absorbing quick-drying properties, and moisture release capability.

Organic cotton refers to cotton harvested from fields where no pesticides or chemical fertilizers have been used for over three years. As a result, it takes more time and effort to remove impurities and turn it into yarn compared to regular cotton.

Even so, the "Cotton 100%" items are affordably priced, starting at just 1,100 yen (tax included) for one piece. Topvalu’s strength lies in its consistent internal handling from raw material development to final production, so they can offer these high-functionality products at reasonable prices.

Now, as a "basic yet higher-quality item," a new product this season is the "Peace Fit Cool Wool Blend."

"Additionally, wool fibers are structurally similar to human hair, and their surfaces are covered in scales, which are one reason for the prickliness. By using ultra-fine Merino yarn and removing the surface scales, we improve the comfort against the skin.

"Moreover, during the fabric production process, we apply pressing or other special techniques to make the fabric surface as flat as possible. These steps help minimize prickliness even after repeated washing."

Since its debut in 2014, the "Peace Fit" series has showcased a rich lineup of products. But it’s not just about pursuing functionality. While paying close attention to safety, the series has evolved alongside feedback from users.

The Peace Fit series continues to respond to customer voices and release a diverse range of lineups. It promises to keep evolving, remaining a trusted presence in our ordinary lives.
