Latest Release of a Long-Selling Model Renowned for Stability! The True Value of ASICS "Gel-Kayano 32"
Since its debut in 1993, ASICS' GEL-KAYANO has been beloved by runners worldwide. Renowned for its advanced features that support smooth foot transitions during long runs and deliver exceptional stability to suppress foot wobble, this shoe has helped many runners successfully complete full marathons.
In recent years, archive models have found high popularity in the fashion scene, cementing their unique presence. Two years ago, which marked the series' 30th anniversary, the "Gel-Kayano" underwent a significant model upgrade. So, how has the latest creation, the Gel-Kayano 32, evolved?

Balancing Stability & Comfort with the "4D Guidance System"
ASICS also offers the "Gel-Nimbus" series, which focuses on cushioning. The "Gel-Kayano" series, however, is all about stability. While shoes with high cushioning absorb impact, those that emphasize stability minimize wobble and uncontrolled motion on landing, helping control overpronation.
Overpronation refers to the running behavior where the heel excessively rolls inward upon landing. On long and extended runs, fatigue amplifies pronation, making landings less stable. This increases the strain on leg muscles and joints like the knees. For beginner runners with less leg strength and inconsistent form, this tendency becomes especially pronounced. Thanks to its outstanding stability, the "Gel-Kayano" lets beginner runners trust their feet and run with peace of mind.
The key to balancing stability and comfort is the "4D Guidance System," a feature continuing from the "Gel-Kayano 30."
"The 4D Guidance System was developed by researching a runner's movements as they change through the course of a run. The midsole adopts a three-dimensional design with a widened shape from the inner heel to the midfoot, helping control excessive inward rolling while running. Soft, high-rebound foam parts are positioned to extend laterally at the arch, delivering the added stability and comfortable fit crucial as fatigue sets in.
"The heel features an optimal incline to ensure smooth forward weight transfer when landing on the heel. What’s more, the outsole has an expanded ground contact area, providing stable foot transitions," says Tomoko Fujihata, product planning lead at ASICS Japan Corporation.

Forefoot Thickness Increased by 2mm for Better Cushioning & Comfort
The most notable update this time is the forefoot section of the midsole being made 2mm thicker. The entire midsole utilizes FF Blast Plus. The previous model, "Gel-Kayano 31," used FF Blast Plus Eco, which contains about 24% plant-based materials for environmental consideration. Although the name has changed, the material itself remains the same. The heel still features PureGEL for shock absorption, just like last time."We increased the forefoot thickness by 2mm to enhance cushioning and comfort, but we wanted to avoid adding too much weight. By adjusting the midsole's shape, we kept the overall volume about the same. Additionally, by revising the outsole pattern, the shoes are actually a bit lighter than before."
Shoe weight is now 300g for men’s size 27cm (compared to 305g in the previous version) and 256g for women's size 25cm (compared to 270g previously).
For the women’s model, a 3D Space Construction with fine hexagonal grooves on the upper part of the midsole forefoot has been implemented.
"3D Space Construction is a technology also used in the Gel-Kayano 29. By adding these fine hexagonal grooves, the shoe flexes more on landing for even better cushioning. Now, even though the forefoot is 2mm thicker, we incorporated 3D Space Construction so that women, who generally weigh less and have less leg strength than men, can fully experience the high level of cushioning."

Enhanced Unity Between the Foot & Shoe
The upper part uses engineered mesh, with different knitting patterns and hole sizes depending on the area, to increase breathability and fit. The tongue is designed to connect with the inside of the upper, improving both the unity between the foot and shoe, as well as the overall fit. This tongue also features an asymmetrical design, offering stronger support on the inner side. Not only the sole, but also the upper is engineered to suppress the inward rolling of the foot. When you first slip the shoe on, you immediately notice how well the heel fits. This high-quality fit is consistent across ASICS running shoes; the heel is held securely yet softly, preventing unnecessary movement inside the shoe while running. This, in turn, should help prevent blisters or calluses.
Once you start running, the first thing you'll notice is the high level of stability. While it may not have the standout cushioning of "Gel Nimbus" or the bounce of "Novablast" among ASICS running shoes, it provides a strong sense of stability and reassurance while running.
The longer your run and the more fatigued you become—especially as your running form deteriorates—the more you'll appreciate the support of the "Gel-Kayano 32." These shoes are ideal for runners aiming to complete half-marathons or full marathons, as well as those who want to enjoy daily jogging with minimal issues.
