High-Level Balance of Stability and Bounce! The Greatness of the ASICS "GT-2000 15"
The GT-2000 from ASICS is a long-selling model known for its stability and agility. It has supported runners in a wide range of scenarios, from daily runs to long-distance races. While it tends to be overshadowed by the wildly popular GEL-KAYANO series, it remains one of ASICS' signature stability models—one that has helped countless runners cross the marathon finish line.
Now, the GT-2000 gets a fresh update. What kind of shoe has the milestone 15th generation become?

One of ASICS' Signature Long-Sellers
The first model of the "GT-2000" series debuted in 1993. The "GT" in the model name comes from GRAN TURISMO, with the concept of running long distances comfortably. The current number "15" counts from 2012, but the series itself has been continuously produced and sold since 1993. Along with the "GEL-KAYANO"—which also debuted in 1993—it stands as one of the brand's iconic long-selling models.
ASICS daily running shoes are categorized into three silos: the Cushion silo for a soft, smooth ride; the Stability silo for supportive stability and comfort while running; and the Bounce silo for a lively, bouncy feel. While the "GT-2000" belongs to the Stability silo, its key feature is that it also delivers a light, nimble ride.
"Like the GEL-KAYANO, the GT-2000 is one of the flagship models of ASICS' Stability silo. Its key feature is striking a balance between stability and a bouncy feel, minimizing wobbling upon impact while giving runners a natural forward progression and a fun running experience.
It's a model we recommend to runners who want to enjoy a lighter, more active run while maintaining stability," says Yoshiya Tsuruishi, Product Planner at ASICS Japan Corporation.

Even Lighter and More Enjoyable Than the Previous Model
This update focused on pursuing comfort and a fun ride. The midsole continues to use FF BLAST MAX, just like the previous model, but with a tweaked softness. "It's not a dramatic change—you might only notice it if you compare them side by side—but it's softer than the previous version of FF BLAST MAX. Additionally, the overall midsole thickness has increased by about 2 mm compared to the previous model, offering an even bouncier feel.
On the other hand, the sockliner is about 0.5 mm thinner, and the material has been updated to EVA, which is also used in models like the NOVABLAST."
With a thinner sockliner, runners can more directly feel the bounce and cushioning of FF BLAST MAX. With the midsole getting about 2 mm thicker and the sockliner about 0.5 mm thinner, the total sole thickness has increased by roughly 1.5 mm. Despite this, the shoe weighs about 20 g less than its predecessor (men's 27.0cm single shoe).
"Optimizing the midsole foam structure and updating the upper material contributed to the weight reduction. While maintaining support and durability, we've updated it into a shoe that delivers an even lighter feel."
High-wear areas on the outer heel and forefoot feature highly durable AHAR PLUS to ensure longevity. AHAR LO is used on the inner sole and flex zones to provide a natural ground feel. Another key update is the expanded surface area of the inner outsole compared to the previous version.

The "3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM" Balances Stability and Comfort
Like its predecessor, the "GT-2000 15" features the 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM. The 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM is a complex functional structure developed by studying how a runner's movements change over distance. "There are three key points to the 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM. First is the 3D geometry that flares inward from the heel to the midfoot in the midsole. This 3D shape prevents excessive inward rolling of the foot while running.
Second is the ideal bevel at the heel, which ensures smooth forward weight transfer during heel contact. Third is the wide-contact outsole. Securing ample surface area on the outsole guarantees reliable stability."

It is no exaggeration to say that this 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM is the source of the current "GT-2000" series' signature identity. Thanks to this system, overpronation (the running behavior where the heel rolls excessively inward upon landing) is suppressed, allowing runners to move smoothly into the next stride.
During long-duration and long-distance runs, fatigue increases pronation, making landings unstable. This increases the strain on leg muscles and joints like the knees. This tendency is especially pronounced in beginner runners who lack sufficient leg strength and have unstable form.
The "GT-2000 15" is a shoe that even complete beginners can trust with confidence.
Slipping my feet into them, the heel is firmly held—a feature common to ASICS daily running shoes—providing a strong sense of unity and reassurance. Once running, likely thanks to the 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM, a high level of stability is immediately noticeable. There is a distinct feel of support along the inner foot, keeping overpronation in check. Even so, it doesn't feel overly stiff, allowing for comfortable foot strikes.
While it lacks flashy features like the premium cushioning of the "GEL-NIMBUS 28" or the energetic bounce of the "SUPERBLAST 3," it offers the stability and comfort needed for trouble-free long-distance runs. It is a highly recommended shoe for anyone planning to start running.
