Next-Level Comfortable Bounce! The Evolution of ASICS' "NOVABLAST 6"
The ASICS "BLAST" series is renowned for its outstanding bounce, achieved through a trampoline-inspired structure. Among the series, the highly popular "NOVABLAST" has unveiled its latest iteration: the NOVABLAST 6. With updates to midsole construction, materials, and upper fabrics, this model takes a major step forward. But how does it actually perform on the road?
Enhanced Energy Return and Propulsion Over the Predecessor!
The NOVABLAST has earned widespread acclaim as a daily trainer supporting everyday runs and jogs. Many runners have undoubtedly been won over by its addictively light and energetic ride. While the previous NOVABLAST 5 featured FF BLAST MAX across the full length of the midsole, this latest version retains FF BLAST MAX as its base while incorporating FF TURBO SQUARED in the forefoot. The combination of these two high-performing materials works in tandem to deliver even greater energy return.
"Adding FF TURBO SQUARED to the forefoot is the headline update for this model. It noticeably boosts energy return during toe-off, giving runners a springier feel and more forward propulsion," explains Kazuto Hagiwara from Product Planning at ASICS Japan Ltd.

So, what exactly is the newly introduced FF TURBO SQUARED? This lightweight, highly responsive material is also featured in other BLAST series models like the SONICBLAST and MEGABLAST. Compared to standard FF TURBO, it boasts approximately 32% greater responsiveness.
"While FF LEAP—used in our top racing shoes—is superior in both lightness and responsiveness, FF TURBO SQUARED is also remarkably springy. Where FF LEAP is soft with generous cushioning, FF TURBO SQUARED excels in quick-response energy return.
We know that what runners love most about the NOVABLAST is its high responsiveness and bouncy feel, so our goal was to deliver an even clearer spring-like sensation underfoot."
Including FF LEAP, ASICS has developed a rich lineup of proprietary materials. After evaluating various combinations—and tweaking their proportions—the team concluded that pairing an FF BLAST MAX base with forefoot FF TURBO SQUARED offered the ideal setup for the NOVABLAST 6.
"Since the NOVABLAST targets daily runners who enjoy regular training, we needed to boost responsiveness while maintaining solid stability. Balancing cushioning, stability, and the signature NOVABLAST bounce ultimately led us to this combination of FF BLAST MAX and FF TURBO SQUARED."
For runners seeking maximum responsiveness, options like the SUPERBLAST 3 and MEGABLAST are also available.
ASICSGRIP Forefoot Outsole for Enhanced Traction
The stack height remains unchanged from the previous model at 41.5mm in the heel and 33.5mm in the forefoot, with an 8mm heel-to-toe drop. Weighing approximately 253g (single shoe, size 27.0cm / US 9), it is roughly 2g lighter than its predecessor. While the updated midsole lineup is the headliner, subtle refinements can be found throughout—including a new outsole material. "While the previous model used AHAR LO across the entire outsole, this edition features ASICSGRIP specifically in the forefoot. Boosting forefoot grip gives runners a firmer purchase on the ground during toe-off."

Equipped with FF TURBO SQUARED in the forefoot midsole, the "Novablast 6" offers enhanced responsiveness, while improved forefoot grip makes it easier to catch the ground. It is fair to say this shoe has evolved to deliver an even more energetic ride.
The upper features a lightweight, highly flexible engineered woven fabric. By varying the weave and perforation size depending on the zone, it achieves an optimal balance between breathability and fit. While the previous model used engineered mesh, breathability is said to be even higher in this iteration.

The signature bouncy ride of the "Novablast"
As soon as you put them on, you immediately feel the excellent fit, just like in the previous model. While this is a common trait across Asics shoes, the snug heel fit and ideal amount of hold are standout features of the "Novablast" series. The pleasantly bouncy feel definitely feels enhanced. Smooth toe-offs naturally propel you into your next step. Simply running as usual seems to improve your rhythm and tempo, naturally lifting your pace. On a personal note, perhaps due to the upgraded forefoot grip, it also felt noticeably more stable than its predecessor.
The "Novablast 6" is a pair that perfectly fits runners looking to enjoy their daily runs to the fullest.
