What Is AUDE HEROUARD? Eyewear From France, Imbued with the Light of Normandy and Crafted by Master Artisans
The winds of Normandy carry with them serenity, strength, and the very feel of time. Born to a farmer father and an artisan mother, Aude Herouard learned from a life lived in harmony with nature that “beauty is something polished over time.” She brought this philosophy to life in 2021 with the launch of her eyewear brand, AUDE HEROUARD.
Infused with the spirit of French handiwork and the gentle hues of light, her eyewear subtly complements the wearer's individuality, adding a soft touch of color to everyday life. We spoke with the designer, who explores the acts of “seeing” and “being beautiful” through the exquisite objects we call eyewear, about the wellspring of her creativity and the philosophy that guides her.

The Birth of a Brand and an Aesthetic Nurtured by Nature
The serene countryside of Normandy and the powerful cliffs of Étretat, with the gentle wind that blows between them, form the creative landscape of eyewear designer Aude Herouard.“My father was a farmer who grew flax, and my mother was an artisan who beautifully restored old objects. They taught me the value of handling things with care and polishing them over time. That principle remains at the core of my design philosophy today.”
Her aesthetic sensibilities were shaped by watching her family live in harmony with nature, by tools that gained character with age, and by the changing of the seasons—all born from a sense of enduring beauty.
In 2021, she established her eponymous brand, AUDE HEROUARD. The eyewear she creates is not merely a tool for correcting vision; it is a small stage that reflects the personality and lifestyle of the wearer.

“Both sunglasses and optical eyewear are the first things you notice on a person’s face. Like a beautiful pair of shoes, they are what completes a person’s look. For me, the ideal outfit is a white men’s shirt, denim, and shoes and eyewear that have character. I think that alone is perfectly elegant.”
‘Everyday Works of Art’ Woven from Skill and Individuality
In just a few years since its founding, AUDE HEROUARD has steadily gained a following among fashion-forward individuals and artists. Its greatest appeal lies in its quality and functionality, which are supported by exceptional technical skill and a deep commitment to its materials. The foundation was laid during her apprenticeship at the prestigious eyewear manufacturer Le Lanchon in Rouen. She says that there, she learned more than just craftsmanship; she acquired a new way of seeing and thinking about objects.

“I learned not only a relentless pursuit of the perfect finish but also the importance of stepping back to see the bigger picture. When a problem arises, you don’t panic; you solve it one step at a time, and you’ll always find an answer. My entire approach to work stems from that experience.”
Using organic acetate and Italian-made lenses, every piece is brought to life by the hands of skilled artisans in France, from prototyping to polishing and final assembly. This meticulous handiwork is evident in every detail, from the rounded edges of the frames and their lightness against the skin to the way they are designed to reflect light.

“A frame speaks to a person’s character not just through its color and shape, but through its feel. The luster of the finish or a subtle difference in thickness can completely change a person’s expression.”
Her color palette is infused with the Normandy landscapes she adores: chestnut, cherry, oak, and the grayish-blue of a cloudy sky. These hues, which shift slowly in the natural light, blend serenely into daily life while adding a dash of personality.
Models with a Story, Inspired by Loved Ones
Furthermore, her designs strongly reflect inspiration drawn from the people in her life. The “CHRISTIANE” model, inspired by her grandmother, evokes a modest, hardworking, and slightly shy presence. Its translucent brown frames combine a sense of calm with softness, fitting naturally on any face.

Meanwhile, the “BRIGITTE” model embodies her mother’s natural elegance. It features a light, sophisticated silhouette that pairs perfectly with simple jeans and a cashmere sweater. The soft beige and peach-toned frames lend a calm, intelligent impression, highlighting the wearer’s inner charm.

Finally, the “MICHÈLE” model, inspired by her aunt, expresses a vibrant and distinctive character. Its deep green or red frames make a statement with their strong personality and sense of color, creating a truly one-of-a-kind presence on the wearer’s face.

Crafting Eyewear to be Cherished for 20 Years to Come
The dedication to small-scale production is born from a desire to deliver pieces that feel special while seamlessly blending into the everyday. Instead of mass production, each pair is meticulously crafted over time, allowing the eyewear to develop a unique patina and become an integral part of the wearer's life. She steers clear of fleeting trends, continuously pursuing a lasting creativity that will be cherished for decades to come.
"Putting them on brings a sense of composure." This quiet yet powerful elegance is the hallmark of AUDE HEROUARD's eyewear. Through French artisan techniques, organic materials, and subtle color expressions, each pair tells a timeless story on the wearer's face. They are small objets d'art that evolve over time, adding new layers of color to your life's journey. Like a cherished memory, they create moments of quiet distinction in the everyday.
The collection is available at select retailers and online in Japan. We encourage you to experience these "everyday works of art" for yourself.
