"We receive a lot of feedback from customers saying that wearing jeans in summer makes them uncomfortable due to the heat and sweat stickiness. To address this, we developed summer jeans with moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties that prevent the fabric from clinging to the skin even when sweating."

In recent years, extreme summer heat has been lasting longer, prompting talk in the apparel industry of a shift to "two seasons," where climate conditions consolidate into spring/summer and fall/winter. What consumers demand from summer clothing is no longer just temporary coolness, but practicality that can handle prolonged heat. With consumer expectations for functionality on the rise, how does EDWIN view market needs?

"COOL FLEX is a staple summer collection that we offer every year, but we update the materials used each season to match the changing environment and needs."

However, being cool alone isn't enough. Many users choosing functional jeans are also looking for stretchability that doesn't restrict body movement.

"From the development stage, stretchability was a non-negotiable requirement. The majority of customers looking for functional jeans—whether for summer or warm winter styles—expect stretchability."

Therefore, COOL FLEX uses Motion Fit Denim as its base, the same fabric featured in EDWIN's classic "JERSEYS" line. The core of development was adding summer-friendly lightness and coolness while retaining the authentic denim appearance and outstanding stretch of this material.

Adapting Motion Fit Denim for Summer

The featured "Cool: JERSEYS COOL Straight" incorporates linen into standard Motion Fit Denim.

"The goal was to reduce stickiness when sweating, thanks to linen's signature dry feel."

The material composition is 61% cotton, 18% polyester, 10% regenerated fiber (cellulosic), 6% nylon, 3% linen, and 2% polyurethane. Wearing them feels crisp and smooth against the skin. Although the linen content is relatively small at 3%, its dry touch is distinctly noticeable.

Meanwhile, the 10% Lyocell (a regenerated fiber) creates a soft, supple texture. Lyocell, derived from wood pulp, is widely used in products where softness is essential, such as shirts, underwear, pajamas, and bedding. Blending it into denim achieves a smoothness and suppleness that cotton alone cannot deliver.

Furthermore, nylon contributes to a lightweight feel. Boasting excellent strength and abrasion resistance, it also provides the durability required for daily wear while maintaining softness and lightness.

"Combining the dry feel of linen, the softness of Lyocell, and the lightness of nylon—by blending these three materials, we aimed for an effortless, comfortable fit."

Of course, the signature stretch of Motion Fit Denim remains intact. A major feature of this model is that while enhancing coolness and lightness, it retains a comfortable fit that smoothly adapts to body movements.

Xylitol Treatment That Absorbs Heat by Reacting to Sweat Moisture

Another key feature that shouldn't be overlooked is the xylitol finish. Xylitol is a type of sugar alcohol best known as a sweetener in gum and mint tablets. While it isn't a pharmaceutical or a heavy-duty refrigerant, it is used in the apparel industry as a finishing agent that takes advantage of its property to absorb surrounding heat upon contact with moisture.

"Xylitol has the property of absorbing surrounding heat when it comes into contact with moisture. By leveraging this, we allow the wearer to feel a cooling sensation whenever they sweat."

In short, when sweat or moisture hits the fabric, the xylitol-infused treatment reacts by absorbing heat from the surface of the fabric. This is the mechanism behind that refreshing, cool feel.

In practice, the sensation isn't an intense, icy chill like something taken out of the fridge, but rather a subtle cooling effect that kicks in right when you start to sweat. Combined with the dry texture of linen, it prevents the fabric from sticking to your skin, keeping discomfort at bay.

Cool and Easy to Move in, Yet Looks Like Classic Jeans

Thoughtful design touches have also been applied to the silhouette to maximize comfort. The "[Cool] JERSEYS COOL Straight" adopts the same regular straight fit as EDWIN's classic "JMH03" model. While offering comfortable breathing room around the waist, it eliminates excess bunching and bulk to deliver a clean, well-balanced look.

"In addition to the fabric's stretchiness, the rib-knit waistband also stretches, making them exceptionally comfortable to wear."
