Water-Repellent & Stain-Resistant Materials Take Center Stage: Exploring the Allure of "KEYUCA Apparel," Clothing for Busy Modern Women
Known as a "lifestyle shop that colors daily life," KEYUCA has made a significant leap into the apparel business to mark its 20th anniversary.
The primary target demographic is women in their late 30s to 50s. They are focusing on product development that balances functionality and design, with items made from stain-resistant and water-repellent materials (Nano-Tex processing) gaining particular acclaim.
A distinguishing feature of KEYUCA Apparel is that it transcends the limitations of a mere fashion brand, positioning itself as a designer of everyday life scenes.
This time, we had the opportunity to speak with Yoya Yoshika and Chika Fujii from Kawajun Co., Ltd. about the development background and product characteristics of KEYUCA Apparel, as well as its future prospects.
20th Anniversary: A New Challenge in Apparel Expansion

KEYUCA originally started as an interior shop and gradually expanded into fashion accessories. With the 20th anniversary, they decided to fully venture into the apparel business.
According to Yoshika, this decision stemmed from a desire for new challenges as a brand.
"We believed that clothing is an indispensable part of lifestyle proposals.
"KEYUCA has always aimed to solve lifestyle issues through its products, and we decided to transform from an interior brand to a brand that proposes a complete lifestyle."
Targeting women in their late 30s to 50s is based on the analysis that there is a shortage of brands catering to this age group in the market.
Furthermore, understanding the lifestyles of their existing clientele in the same demographic influenced this decision.
"This target group is very interested in fashion, yet they have experienced failures with low-priced products and are now inclined to make more prudent consumption choices related to their fashion journey.
"Many of them distance themselves from the values of pursuing high-end brands. We felt that there was a lack of brands in the market that meet these new fashion needs."
KEYUCA Apparel aimed to create new values that transcend traditional fashion brand boundaries.
This can be seen as a natural evolution of their long-standing commitment to quality cultivated through interior products, combined with a corporate stance that deeply considers the users' lifestyles.
"We desired to propose garments as tools that complement daily life, just as we do with dishware and kitchen items, rather than merely pursuing fashion aesthetics.
"Our goal is to create clothing that not only has surface appeal but also provides deeper satisfaction in daily life. Receiving comments from customers like 'It's very thoughtful' serves as our greatest praise."
Why KEYUCA Products Are Chosen: "No Compromise on Design or Function"

A particularly noteworthy product development focus for KEYUCA Apparel is the series utilizing stain-resistant and water-repellent materials (Nano-Tex processing), which repel water like beads and are resistant to dirt.
This pursuit of functionality embodies a strong desire to address the everyday challenges faced by parenting women, as explained by Fujii.
"These products are designed to allow mothers raising children to enjoy their precious moments with their kids while still looking stylish.
"For instance, we have engineered the clothing so that even if a drink is spilled or mud splashes during outdoor play, they can enjoy those moments without worry.
"We aim to create clothing that generates the mental space to focus on interactions with children."
The flagship products featuring water-repellent technology, the "Sugo Nano Water Repellent Belted Shirt One-piece" and the "Sugo Nano water repellent Tuck Shirt One-piece," are committed to balancing functionality and design.

Using a Nano-Tex treatment, which has outstanding durability compared to standard water-repellent processing, our products withstand washing.
"Our development process begins with designs that capture the hearts of women, and we carefully analyze issues in daily life to incorporate functionality. To achieve this duality, we rigorously verify everything from material selection to processing methods."
In material selection, balancing price and quality is emphasized.
"We prioritize maintaining an affordable price range while ensuring quality suitable for adult women.
"Regarding materials, we pursue both comfort while wearing and a luxurious appearance.
"Even amidst rising prices, we are starting initiatives to lower the prices of basic products from next season."
In terms of design, we incorporate various adjustments that fit diverse body types.
"Women's body shapes change in numerous ways due to age and lifestyle environments.
"While different individuals focus on various areas such as the back or waistline, we strive to design products that cover body concerns while enhancing style."
In this way, while being committed to balancing functionality and design, KEYUCA Apparel products have features that distinguish them from other lifestyle brands.
Fujii explains that this lies in valuing qualities such as "femininity" and "elegance."
"In the lifestyle wear category, I believe what distinguishes KEYUCA Apparel is that simply wearing our clothes makes you look feminine.
"You can choose pieces that offer just the right amount of elegance without being overly simple. This is a quality that sets us apart from other brands."
Seeking "Just Right" in Daily Life: KEYUCA's Next Step

KEYUCA Apparel is aiming for further expansion of product offerings. Fujii explains:
"Eventually, we hope to develop products that can be enjoyed by the whole family. We have also received many inquiries about products for men."
In terms of functionality, there is enthusiasm for developing new features tailored to Japan's climate.
"We want to work on improving breathability for humid environments and developing cooling functions for a more comfortable wearing experience.
"While there are various functional materials like cooling fabrics, I want to explore what true comfort means."
Additionally, there is interest in product development utilizing traditional Japanese techniques.
"We are focusing on the wonderful traditional fabrics of Japan. The fabrics nurtured in each region are imbued with wisdom that has evolved according to the local climate and lifestyle. This connects with the world view of KEYUCA's tableware, so it’s definitely a field we want to challenge ourselves in."
While continuing to take on innovation challenges, Yoshika shared that the core value of the brand, "creating the right fit," will continue to be upheld in the future.
"The words 'this is well thought out' from our customers after using our products embody our vision of 'the right fit.'
"Moving forward, we will continue to value perspectives that align with our customers' lives while progressing with product development."
