The "STLAKT" series from MILESTO, a brand by BRUNO Inc., offers shoulder bags equipped with anti-skimming pockets and security straps.
Based on real customer feedback gathered at their directly managed stores, why did they enhance security while keeping the design subtle and seamless for daily use?
In this article, we spoke with Yodai Fukushi, who handles PR and media relations in the company's Marketing Department, to explore the development philosophy behind the new "peace of mind on the go" proposed by the "STLAKT" series.

The Background of Enhanced Security Born in an Era of Blurring Travel Boundaries

The STLAKT series was created about 10 years ago with the goal of being a high-quality bag that accompanies every movement scenario, both on and off duty—from daily commutes to casual outings. At its launch, it was co-developed with ANA (All Nippon Airways), infusing the insights of travel professionals. For example, backpacks in the series feature lines inspired by airport runways to express streamlined functional beauty.

Since then, as working styles and lifestyles have evolved, the demand for versatile bags that serve multiple purposes has grown. Furthermore, while international travel demand is recovering, security awareness during travel has heightened due to increasingly sophisticated skimming techniques and theft in crowded places.
Staff at the directly managed store "TRAVEL SHOP MILESTO" gathered earnest feedback from customers: "I want to move lightly while traveling, but I also want to keep my valuables completely secure."
"We designed these bags prioritizing two key values: providing peace of mind while carrying them and eliminating travel stress, rather than just offering storage capacity and basic functionality."
In today's rapidly changing market environment—marked by the spread of cashless payments and the resurgence of overseas travel—an invisible anxiety always accompanies carrying valuables like smartphones and credit cards. The STLAKT series set out to address this challenge through both function and design.

3 Risks Lurking in Modern Travel and Practical Solutions

In developing the new shoulder bags, three risks associated with travel were identified: skimming, unattended bag theft/purse snatching, and losing track of valuables inside the bag. Rather than relying on a single anti-theft feature, a practical design incorporating multiple approaches was adopted to address these risks.
"We want users to focus on enjoying their time at their destination, so we didn't want them spending extra effort or money on preliminary security measures. If the bag comes equipped with these features from the start, there's no need to buy additional security accessories."
True to Fukushi's words, thoughtful details aimed at reducing user burdens are integrated throughout. For the first challenge—skimming protection—the "Multi-Security Shoulder Bag" features a dedicated pocket made with signal-blocking material. Without needing a separate anti-skimming card case, simply storing items intuitively inside keeps them secure.

To combat the second risk—theft and snatching—a detachable security strap is included. Connecting smartphones or keys to the bag prevents accidental drops. Additionally, attaching the carabiner to the loop below the zipper pull acts as a simple lock, preventing unauthorized opening.

Addressing the third risk—searching for items—further elevates security. Layout details were meticulously planned, including hidden pockets that allow instant access to essentials. Reducing the vulnerable moments spent digging through an open bag ultimately serves as the ultimate defense against skimming and pickpocketing.

Everyday-Friendly Design and Premium Material Selection

While equipping bags with robust security features, making them look overly like anti-theft gear makes them awkward for daily use. By placing functional elements in intuitive spots and keeping the exterior sleek, the brand pursued a design that seamlessly fits into everything from business settings to weekend strolls.
For durability against friction and wear, CORDURA® nylon—often used in outdoor gear—was selected. Rather than a standard fabric, an original heathered pattern custom-ordered from INVISTA gives it a refined texture that suits urban landscapes. Additionally, the surface features a Teflon® coating, adding practical protection against sudden rain and stains.

"It is extremely important to us that while offering anti-theft security features, the bag doesn't look overly conspicuous, allowing it to be used effortlessly during commutes, city walks, or sightseeing while traveling. Our ideal is for users to enjoy the present moment without constantly worrying about their bag's contents."
A simple, refined design that complements everyday outfits
As Fukushi noted, user day-to-day experiences are carefully considered even in subtle specification updates.
For instance, the flap of the "Multi-Security Shoulder Bag" previously used hook-and-loop fasteners. While the sound of opening it offered a security benefit by making theft easy to detect, users reported everyday drawbacks—such as fabric snagging on sleeves or the loud noise tearing through quiet train cars. In this updated model, it was changed to a magnetic closure, constantly fine-tuning the balance between security and user convenience.

The Next Standard: Making Every Journey Comfortable

For MILESTO, a "journey" isn't just a special vacation; it encompasses every moment from leaving home to returning. Even in everyday transit—like commuting or running errands—eliminating subtle, unseen anxieties lies at the core of the brand. Rather than making the bag the main attraction, their goal is to support the wearer's actions.
"Beyond mere storage capacity and functionality, we want to deliver comfortable travel time by removing the small stresses and anxieties that occur while moving from place to place."
Fukushi emphasizes the positive effect that peace of mind brings: creating an environment where users can immerse themselves in the scenery and experiences before them without worrying excessively about their belongings or safety. Products that seamlessly merge high functionality with sophisticated design empower people's daily movements and effortlessly encourage them to take their next step.
The new line of bags proposed by the "STLAKT" series goes beyond being mere luggage—it enriches the very experience of travel itself. Their ongoing effort to offer stress-free moments will surely continue to complement our daily lifestyles.
