Unleashing the Potential of Mizuno's Latest Super Trainer: The MIZUNO NEO VISTA 3
Launched in 2024, the "MIZUNO NEO VISTA" was Mizuno's first super trainer, designed to elevate the quality of daily jogs. Its successor, the "Mizuno Neo Vista 2," arrived last summer, successfully garnering a following among runners by balancing high bounce with stability.
So, what advancements does the latest installment in the series, the "Mizuno Neo Vista 3," bring to the table?
Currently, Mizuno's running shoes are organized into four categories: SPEED, BOUNCE, CRUISE, and FLOAT. SPEED is for chasing personal records, BOUNCE provides springy cushioning, CRUISE offers stable cushioning, and FLOAT delivers soft cushioning.
The "Mizuno Neo Vista" is the flagship shoe of the BOUNCE category. Known for its energetic propulsion and a technical yet simple design, it has been a popular entry point into Mizuno's running shoe lineup for many runners since its 2024 debut.
The latest addition, the "Mizuno Neo Vista 3," has reportedly been updated to be more powerful, user-friendly, and stable. Let's dive into the new technologies that make this possible.

A ~12% Boost in MIZUNO ENERZY NXT (Supercritical Material) Volume
The midsole of the "Mizuno Neo Vista 3" features a material called MIZUNO ENERZY NXT. Like its predecessor, the name remains the same, but the composition differs between the top and bottom layers. The top midsole employs a TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane)-based material made with supercritical foaming technology, while the bottom midsole uses an EVA-based material. While TPU is typically known for being hard and heavy, Mizuno's proprietary manufacturing process transforms it into a soft and lightweight material, all while retaining TPU's inherent flexural rigidity and high rebound.
"The stack height is unchanged from the previous model, with a 44.5mm heel and a 36.5mm forefoot. However, we've increased the volume of the MIZUNO ENERZY NXT with supercritical foaming technology in the top midsole by about 12% compared to the previous model (while the bottom material was reduced by about 6%). This volume increase, particularly from the midfoot to the forefoot, has significantly enhanced rebound," explains Hideya Okamoto from the Design & Development Sourcing Department at Mizuno Corporation's Global Footwear Product Headquarters. "Furthermore, although the name hasn't changed, the material itself has been upgraded, offering improved rebound and reduced weight compared to the top midsole material in the previous model."

Equipped with a 3D-Shaped, Fiberglass-Reinforced Plate
To get the most out of the MIZUNO ENERZY NXT with supercritical foaming technology, a newly shaped plate has been incorporated."This is a fiberglass-infused nylon plate. It's softer than carbon, and its purpose is less about creating a rolling motion for the foot and more about providing stability and dispersing pressure," Okamoto notes.
"Its structure is quite unique: the center of the plate runs along the top, while the two sides dip down to run along the bottom. This design allowed us to increase the volume of the top midsole, enabling us to boost rebound without sacrificing stability."

The placement and geometry of the outsole rubber have also been re-engineered. The rubber now features a finer and deeper groove pattern for improved grip, ensuring an even more stable stride than the previous model.
In addition, water-drainage capabilities have been enhanced, increasing grip and confidence on wet surfaces. The upper has also received a significant update.
"In this version, we've added sponge padding to the heel area to create a fit that hugs the foot. I believe this improved upper fit also helps to reduce energy loss."

Continues to Feature the Patented SMOOTH SPEED ASSIST Technology
Like its predecessor, the shoe is equipped with Mizuno's exclusive sole structure, SMOOTH SPEED ASSIST. This technology integrates a curved forefoot, an expanded midfoot, and a cut-out heel to help runners maintain the optimal ankle angle. This design eases the strain on the calf muscles and promotes a smooth midfoot strike, supporting a more efficient running form.
The primary audience for this new model is runners aiming for a full marathon time of around four hours. It's a high-performance, all-in-one shoe perfect for racing, speed training, and jogging for those looking to break the sub-4-hour barrier.
Athletes from Hosei University were present at the shoe's launch, and it’s certainly suitable for elite runners' training as well. They reportedly use the "Mizuno Neo Vista 3" for practice runs at a pace of about 3 minutes and 30 seconds per kilometer.
More Stable and Easier to Run In Than Its Predecessor
Slipping the shoe on, you'll immediately notice the improved fit around the ankle and the ample cushioning in the heel. While the effects of the 3D plate and revised outsole pattern are significant, I was particularly struck by the enhanced stability during toe-off.With a heel height of 44.5mm, it's firmly in the maximalist category, yet it feels remarkably stable, allowing for a smooth stride. It's definitely user-friendly with a comfortable ride. This version is likely to win over even more runners than its predecessor.
