Bringing Out the Best Performance in Runners: New Balance's "SuperComp Elite V6"
New Balance's "SuperComp Elite" is a line of shoes designed to help runners achieve their peak performance on race day.
The first-generation model debuted in 2020 as New Balance's very first plate-equipped racing shoe. Ever since, it has helped countless runners reach their goals with its high energy return, driven by the combination of a carbon plate and a proprietary midsole compound.
In this latest update, the midsole foam has been completely revamped, and the plate design has been re-engineered. Let's dive into the secrets behind the SuperComp Elite v6, which delivers a significantly lighter weight and explosive energy return.

Incorporating Infinion Technology into the Midsole
The "SuperComp Elite" is New Balance's flagship race-day shoe. As such, it's a series that has consistently featured cutting-edge technology. From "v1" through "v3," the midsole featured FuelCell, known for its lightweight construction and high energy return. "v4" and "v5" incorporated PEBA (polyether block amide) FuelCell, improving responsiveness and durability. The shoe evolved to deliver even quicker energy return while retaining comfortable cushioning.
Now, with the "SuperComp Elite v6," the midsole platform has been completely redesigned. It marks the debut of Infinion, a material engineered for long-lasting performance.
"Infinion is a midsole platform created to support runners in running farther and more efficiently. It boasts exceptional resilience, high durability, and maintains its bouncy feel over long periods. Put simply, it's a platform with low energy loss that doesn't easily break down," explains Aoi Mamiya, Running Footwear Category Manager at New Balance Japan, Inc.
By utilizing Infinion—which excels in cushioning, energy return, and long-lasting durability—the "SuperComp Elite v6" makes maintaining speed effortless.
Maximizing Energy Return at Toe-Off
Designed to deliver explosive energy return specifically during toe-off, the latest model features an updated sole structure with revised shapes for both the midsole and the plate."While it retains a spoon-like curved shape similar to the previous plate, the curve is now gentler, allowing for a smoother transition of your center of gravity. Another key feature is the varied thickness of the plate. The heel area is designed slightly thinner, while the forefoot is thicker and stiffer. As a result, when you push off hard at toe-off, you get a ride that propels you forward with a distinct bounce."
This update makes the shoe even easier to build speed with—and crucially, easier to maintain that pace.
Top-Tier Racing Performance with Uncompromising Lightness
"Pursuing lightness was another major focus of this update. However, rather than simply aiming to create a light shoe, we carefully balanced energy return and stability, seeking maximum weight reduction while maintaining those essential qualities."The upper utilizes an ultra-thin, lightweight mesh. Looking from above, you can see that the material in the forefoot is so thin that the insole shows through. By bonding two types of ultra-thin materials and fusing them with a geometric pattern, the proprietary FANTOM FIT structure delivers a secure fit alongside its lightweight design. It also features flexible movement that naturally adapts to the foot's motion.
Thanks in part to the updated midsole material, the shoe weighs approximately 198g (single shoe, 27.5cm). Compared to the previous model's ~210g (single shoe, 27.5cm), it successfully sheds over 10g.
Additionally, the outsole uses a lightweight material with high abrasion resistance and durability. It provides strong grip across various road conditions even during high-speed running, minimizing energy loss.
Ease of Control Is Another Key Appeal of the "SuperComp Elite v6"
The "SuperComp Elite v6" was unveiled at the "New Balance SuperComp Camp 2026" held in Sugadaira, Nagano Prefecture. During the event, athletes had the opportunity to run in the "SuperComp Elite v6" on the very grounds that many high schools and universities select for their summer training camps. While my own running ability wasn't enough to fully unlock its potential, I could clearly feel how easily it generates speed and helps maintain pace and rhythm. Despite being a top-tier racing shoe targeted at elite runners, its high stability and user-friendly control are major highlights.

The Juntendo University athletes who participated in the presentation also praised the shoe for offering even greater propulsion than the previous model, along with excellent stability and a sense of security. It will be exciting to see athletes performing dynamically in the "SuperComp Elite v6" during the upcoming Ekiden season.
