The Performance of the Latest Nike Vomero with Top-Level Cushioning

2025.02.06
A new model, "Nike Vomero 18," has been announced, delivering maximum cushioning for all runners and improving the comfort of road running. While the "Vomero" has gained popularity in lifestyle scenes in recent years, it has had a core following as a running shoe, but has generally remained somewhat overshadowed by the "Pegasus."
However, with the arrival of the "Nike Vomero 18," the emphasis on responsiveness from the "Pegasus" and stability from the "Structure" is setting the stage for this shoe to become a major pillar in Nike's road running lineup. What kind of shoe is this much-anticipated "Nike Vomero 18"?

In 2006, the "Nike Zoom Vomero Plus" was launched as a versatile running shoe with excellent cushioning suitable for any distance. Since then, it has been particularly popular among runners looking for cushioning, leading to the long-standing success of the "Nike Vomero." The newly launched "Nike Vomero 18" has been developed to set a new standard for maximum cushioning and comfort in road running.

The Greatest Cushioning in "Nike Vomero" History

The new "Vomero," designed with active feedback from female runners, utilizes Nike's leading technologies to provide high-level cushioning and comfort for runners of all genders.

"The midsole features a two-layer structure with ZoomX foam on the top and ReactX foam on the bottom. The ZoomX foam is placed just underfoot, and the ReactX foam is employed in the lower section.
"Compared to traditional React foam, ReactX foam provides 13% higher energy return and has a 43% lower carbon emission during production. This is the first time ReactX foam has been used in the Vomero series," says Ashley Campbell, Nike Running Footwear Product Line Manager.
By the way, the midsole of the previous model, "Nike Vomero 17," combined ZoomX foam with Cushlon 3.0 foam.

The stack height of "Nike Vomero 18" is 6mm thicker than its predecessor, with a heel height of 46mm and a forefoot height of 36mm, making it the thickest in the Vomero history. Additionally, it features a curvature structure resembling a rocking chair leg that allows for a smooth transition from heel to toe. The outsole uses rubber that is both durable and offers excellent traction. Together, they create a comfortable and luxurious ride.

"What we've heard from runners is that when they think of maximum cushioning, they imagine a soft and plush feel that absorbs impact from the ground. Therefore, we made it our mission to deliver not only that feel but also outstanding design and technology by focusing on even the smallest details in this product.
"The Vomero 18 is designed to provide a comfortable ride for all runners, from recreational to elite, offering excellent support, reducing body strain, and aiding in achieving their goals," says Campbell.

A Representative Pair of Nike's Road Running Footwear

Nike's road running footwear line has been simply restructured, with the "Vomero" series becoming one of the three main categories.

"We listened to runners' desire to choose running footwear more intuitively. Therefore, we focused on the always sought-after feature of cushioning and made the composition of road running shoes clearer.
"The new lineup, centered around iconic staples, enables runners to easily find shoes that provide their preferred ride feel, offering high responsiveness, maximum cushioning, and excellent support.
"If you seek responsive cushioning, choose Pegasus; for maximum cushioning, go for Vomero; and if you want highly supportive cushioning, choose Structure," says Marian Dougherty, Senior Director of Nike Global Running Footwear.

Currently, the "Pegasus" series includes the more responsive-focused "Nike Pegasus Plus" and the fully-length Nike Air Zoom units featured in the dimensional and visible "Nike Pegasus Premium." Perhaps the lineup for "Vomero" and "Structure" will also be expanded.

Design that Matches Lifestyle Scenes

In addition to its excellent cushioning and comfort, the design is also a charm of the "Nike Vomero 18." The bold silhouette, skillfully using curves, not only beautifies the runner's appearance but also matches lifestyle scenarios.
The lead color, "Atmosphere Pink," symbolizes the joy that runners feel during long-distance runs. The bright coloring, incorporating female runners' feedback, is sure to accentuate everyday outfits.

For those just beginning their running journey, as a high-cushion jog shoe for runners seeking daily comfort, or as a recovery run shoe post-race, I hope you try the "Nike Vomero 18."
