What Is the "Wearable Comforter" Developed by TAION? A New Winter Proposal for Wearing Down Indoors
"Inner down" jackets have become a staple in winter wardrobes everywhere. TAION, a brand specializing in this category since its 2016 debut, has won over a massive following thanks to its commitment to being lightweight, warm, packable, and incredibly cost-effective.
Now, TAION is launching its "room down" from the "Down-comforter in Cushion (D.i.C)" series, built on the concept of "wearing your comforter." We sat down with Takayuki Kimura, the PR representative for TAION Co., Ltd., to discuss the story behind its development and the meticulous details that went into it.

The Idea Sprang from the Instinctive Desire to "Stay Wrapped Up in a Comforter"
"You know those moments when you just don't want to get out from under the covers? That feeling of wanting to stay snuggled up and just lounge around... that's exactly it."The agony of leaving a warm comforter on a cold morning is something everyone can relate to.
"The desire to grant that wish—'If only I could just wear my comforter!'—was the starting point for developing the D.i.C. series."
In fact, with rising utility costs, we're hearing that more and more people are wearing inner down jackets at home to stay warm.
"However, existing inner down jackets are designed for the outdoors or as outerwear. So, we really dug into what kind of functionality and design is needed for down that's meant for 'living more comfortably at home.'"

While TAION had items that could be worn as loungewear before, they were fundamentally built to outdoor-wear specs, requiring windproofing and water repellency. We analyzed that what's truly needed for "room down" is a feeling of relaxation and comfort. With that in mind, the D.i.C. series meticulously pursues the "wearable comforter" concept.
"We believed the key was how much it helps you relax, so we obsessed over every detail: the comfortable feel, the lightness, the warmth, and the convenience."
The D.i.C. series is available in two types: the loungewear-style "ROOM DOWN WEAR with Cushion" and the comforter-style "DOWN COMFORTER with Cushion."
Room Down that Pursues Relaxation, Leveraging Expertise Gained from Inner Down
The "ROOM DOWN WEAR with Cushion" is a loungewear set with a jacket and pants. It's shockingly lightweight and so comfortable you could fall asleep wearing it.At the same time, to ensure it doubles as a "design you can wear out," every detail of the design and materials was meticulously considered—from the piping on the collar, cuffs, and hem, to the texture of the lining and the way the down is prevented from clumping.
"We've created a design that anyone can wear comfortably, regardless of age or gender. You can also cinch the waist to adjust the silhouette," he adds, highlighting the focus on a balanced, unisex fit.
Another attractive feature is its construction, which allows for complete freedom of movement and relaxation in any position.

The outer fabric is a soft, high-density material, just like a standard comforter. It's designed to replicate the warmth and security you feel the instant you're enveloped in it, but in the form of down wear.
The insulation is high-quality 800-fill-power down, ensuring warmth on par with TAION's classic inner down. The amount of down is perfectly balanced—not too bulky, not too thin—creating a superb volume that conforms naturally to the body.
The brand's expertise with inner down extends beyond the garment itself. This is clear from the clever storage feature, inspired by stuff sacks. When not in use, the D.i.C. series can be packed away to become a functional cushion.
"We believe this packable feature is what makes it distinctly TAION."

Many of us are guilty of draping our loungewear over the sofa with a promise to "wear it again later." But with TAION's room down, those moments won't give your space that 'lived-in' look.
To make this storage feature even more elegant, the down pack features a rectangular quilt stitch. It strikes a perfect balance between design and function, maintaining the cushion's shape when packed away while ensuring even heat distribution.
The attention to detail is superb, with a lineup of five colors designed to blend seamlessly with your interior—Black, Navy, Dark Chocolate, Ice Gray, and White—so they "won't look out of place in a winter living room."

You also can't overlook the sheer convenience of this item. Despite being a down product, it’s completely washable at home.
"When using a washing machine, the ideal method is to place it in a laundry net and select a short wash cycle. If you want a more thorough clean, we recommend gently hand-washing it and then spinning it for about a minute to remove excess water."
This easy-care design, conceived for daily use, is a key value of the room down.
The futon-style "DOWN COMFORTER in Cushion" can be easily reshaped with snap buttons and worn as a poncho or cardigan. It's not just functional as a simple covering; it has the flexibility to fit seamlessly into any part of your daily routine, from morning to night and during your downtime. A blanket type is also available, adding to its appeal as you can choose the one that best suits your lifestyle.

As a groundbreaking item, the reaction from industry insiders has been fantastic, so much so that "a wave of apparel professionals made personal purchases" at trade shows.
There are also plans to expand beyond the inner down category in the future.
"Since last year, we've launched a line of 100% merino wool underwear. True to our brand name, TAION, which means 'body temperature,' we want to increase the number of items that allow people to live comfortably, both at home and outdoors," he explains.
TAION shatters the stereotype that "down is for the outdoors" by proposing an entirely new category: "down for everyday living." This room down, offering "a life where you can feel your body temperature (TAION)," is bound to envelop your winter days in warmth and comfort.
