A Dedication to His Wife & a Mission for the Planet: The Birth of "Conscious Craftsmanship"
What led to the creation of Vivaia?
Vivaia was born from a simple, personal epiphany. My wife, a shoe lover with a collection of over 200 pairs, would always carry adhesive bandages with her. When I asked why, she told me, "It's not the shoes; my feet just aren't a good fit."Her words opened my eyes to the reality that so many women simply accept the pain and discomfort from their footwear as a given. I knew I had to change that.

At the same time, my years in the fashion industry exposed me to its detrimental impact on the environment. This inspired me to create a brand that seamlessly combines comfort, beautiful design, and sustainability.
Could you share the core philosophy of your brand?
Our guiding principle is simple yet unwavering: "Choose to do the right thing, even when it's the hard thing." Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I ran a business that lacked a clear brand identity. That experience taught me the profound importance of building something "meaningful"—something with a compelling story, a clear purpose, and a positive social impact. At Vivaia, we infuse this lesson into every product we develop, striving to harmonize stylish design with responsible craftsmanship.

Balancing Sustainability & Comfort Through Technology
What does sustainable craftsmanship mean to Vivaia in practice?
For us, sustainability goes beyond just selecting eco-friendly materials. It's a holistic approach to minimizing our environmental footprint across the entire product lifecycle, from creation to disposal.Specifically, we combine "Repreve®"—a fiber developed by the US company Unifi, made from recycled materials like used plastic bottles—with our "3D knitting technology." This technique uses computer-controlled machines to knit seamless, three-dimensional uppers, significantly reducing waste.
Our uppers are also stain- and water-repellent and are machine-washable for easy care.

Our cushioned insoles feature PU foam, a soft and highly flexible material, to enhance arch support and alleviate pressure on the feet. We also infuse them with mugwort to boost breathability and provide natural deodorizing properties.

Furthermore, our outsoles are crafted from sugarcane-derived EVA, ensuring our shoes are gentle on both your feet and the planet.

What sets Vivaia apart from competitors in terms of technology and design?
Our key differentiator lies in the seamless fusion of cutting-edge technology, meticulous design, and a deep commitment to the environment.Every element is thoughtfully designed to complement the daily lives of women everywhere—from silhouettes that accommodate various foot shapes and deodorizing insoles to a minimalist, sophisticated aesthetic.
Footwear often forces a compromise, sacrificing comfort or sustainability for style. We strive to create shoes that deliver all three without compromise.

Innovation & a Vision for the Future, Inspired by Customer Dialogue
How was your popular 'Margot Walker' model developed?
The "Margot Walker" was born directly from customer feedback. Our customers wanted a shoe that could handle the unpredictable weather of city life, such as sudden downpours, without sacrificing an ounce of elegance or comfort.
This shoe was developed based on our bestselling "Margot Flat," but with the addition of our superior water-repellent knit technology.
It was a major challenge to ensure water repellency in a knit upper while also maintaining breathability and flexibility. However, after much trial and error, we discovered the perfect balance to create a shoe that repels water yet feels incredibly soft and supple to wear.
What kind of feedback have you received from customers about Vivaia's shoes?
We've received a lot of positive feedback from our customers, with many saying things like, "They're even more comfortable than I imagined," and "My feet don't hurt, even after wearing them all day."We put special effort into ensuring a comfortable fit for those with wider feet, and it's rewarding to see how much this is appreciated by customers who have previously struggled to find shoes that fit them well.
How do you incorporate customer feedback into product development?
Customer feedback is the compass that guides our growth. Every season, we refine the insoles and adjust the shoe lasts based on real-world use and customer opinions. We also continuously work on improving durability by identifying and reinforcing high-stress areas of the knit fabric and conducting extensive testing to ensure our shoes stand up to long-term wear.

What is Vivaia's vision for the future of the brand?
We aim to be a globally trusted brand that masterfully blends beautiful design, exceptional comfort, and a commitment to sustainability.Instead of promoting mass consumption, we are dedicated to creating shoes that people will cherish and wear for years to come. We are committed to tackling sustainability head-on, without compromise, in the hope of shifting people's values.
Our vision is to create meaningful, lasting fashion. We do this through initiatives like our partnership with the non-profit organization "Soles4Souls," which collects unwanted shoes and clothing for distribution to people in need and for reuse.
Challenging the era of mass consumption and building trust with "a pair to be cherished for a lifetime"—Vivaia's mission to introduce a new set of values to the fashion industry has only just begun.
