The Dawn of a New Era: Choosing Lenses by How You See! Unveiling Eyevol's Next-Generation 'Vol System'
The midsummer sun is so intense, it's no exaggeration to call it 'brutal.' To enjoy yourself comfortably in such conditions, a solid pair of sunglasses is essential. Enter Eyevol, a Japanese sunglasses brand that stands with pride. Among their lineup, what’s really catching our eye are the models featuring the top-tier 'Vol System' lens, which debuted last fall.
It All Began with 'Wearable Glasses': Crafting What We Truly Want
To trace the ideology embedded in these lenses, one must first understand the brand's own philosophy. Launched in 2017 as an offshoot of EYEVAN, a brand built on the concept of 'wearable glasses,' Eyevol strikes a perfect balance between classic aesthetics and high-quality performance. It quickly cultivated a fanbase, particularly within the trend-conscious golf community.Boasting high durability, light weight, and supple flexibility, the Japanese-made injection frames provide versatile support for the wearer, no matter the situation. TPE, a resin material, is incorporated into the inner temples and nose pads to prevent uncomfortable slippage during wear.

The lenses, the very heart of sunglasses, are also crafted with exceptional dedication. Instead of the polycarbonate or nylon lenses favored by many sports brands, Eyevol opts for a low-distortion plastic lens called CR-39 lens.
These lenses are gentle on the eyes and offer superior optical performance, but they come at a higher cost. Nevertheless, the brand has never wavered from its conviction to 'create sunglasses we truly want for ourselves,' showcasing its pride as a Japanese-made sunglasses brand—a rarity at the time.
The Vol System, our focus in this article, originates from the same fundamental principle. The Eyevol design team’s quest for 'the sunglasses we want to use right now' culminated in a truly high-spec lens.
A lens's functionality is essentially the sum of its material and its coating. Returning to this basic principle, they embarked on an upgrade from both ends.
The Vol System lens material uses a new Japanese-made 'MR' material. This premium material, which excels in impact resistance and safety, is rarely seen in off-the-shelf sunglasses. However, the decision to adopt it was not based solely on the lens's inherent performance.
After all, the CR-39 lens used in Eyevol’s conventional models is already more than functional enough. So why the need to switch to a new material that might even be considered 'over-spec'd'? The key to this lies in the aforementioned coating.
In short, the Vol System uses a proprietary Omni-Coating to deliver all the functions required of sunglass lenses, including anti-reflection, impact and scratch resistance, heat resistance, and water repellency.
However, applying such an ideal coating to the existing lenses presented a problem. An absolute compatibility exists between lens materials and coatings, and it was impossible to reap the full benefits of the Omni-Coating with the CR lens.
The pairing of 'MR-20' and 'MR-10' with the 'Omni-Coating' proved to be a one-of-a-kind formula. This miraculous union forms the very foundation of the Vol System.
Choose by Purpose: 3 Meticulously Crafted Types. Lenses That Design Your 'Vision'.
Now, let's dive into the specific product variations. Since its debut, the label's lineup has been centered around three core types: 'Urban,' 'Fishing,' and 'Field.' Each is engineered to deliver maximum effectiveness in its intended scenario, resulting in a practical, down-to-earth collection.
The 'Urban' model, best suited for city wear and daily use, comes equipped with gray polarized lenses that cause minimal color distortion. For a polarized lens, its tint is light, and the polarization degree was intentionally set to 76%—just shy of the 99% typically considered high-performance.
The reason, simply put, is their judgment that 'excessive polarization hinders comfort in urban life.' This moderate polarization is the optimal solution, as it barely affects visibility when viewing car navigation systems or smartphone screens—a common weakness of polarized lenses—making them perfect for any situation.

It's worth noting that there are two main types of polarized lenses: those using iodine-based film and those with dye-based film. The Vol System employs the latter, as its polarization doesn't degrade even in hot and humid conditions. What's more, instead of simply laminating the lens and film, they are fused using a 'one-block molding' process—a technique that integrates the two—to achieve exceptional durability.
This commitment to quality is guided by the Eyevol design team's own distinct standards. You can even sense their posture, challenging the recent blind faith in polarized lenses. These all-condition lenses, designed to complement daily life, are imbued with the brand's powerful vision.
Next up is the Fishing model. As its name suggests, it's perfect for use on lakes and other locations intended for fishing. It features 99% polarized lenses—a different level from the Urban model—characterized by a delicate green color based on the hue of the lake surface.

They ensure visibility on reflective water surfaces and, by lowering the tint density, secure just the right amount of brightness and a clear view even on overcast days. It’s a must-have companion for any angler, no matter the season.

The third category features brown lenses, designed for activities like golf and camping. These are not polarized but are natural color-correcting lenses. The coloring method is unique, employing an 'in-mass' technique where pigment is kneaded directly into the material itself.

By coloring the entire lens rather than just the surface, specific wavelengths can be precisely controlled. The lens is adjusted to have spectral properties that enhance green wavelengths, while also emphasizing red wavelengths. This creates the effect of making the undulations of the green and the grain of the turf appear much clearer.

Adding to these three core lineups, the new 'Photochromic' model will debut in the Fall/Winter 2025 collection. As its name implies, it features photochromic lenses that change color in response to UV rays.

Essentially, they function as clear-lens glasses indoors and quickly transform into sunglasses when you step outside into the sun. Even indoors, where UV rays can't reach, they maintain a 15% light tint. This helps preserve a natural field of vision and reduces eye strain, even under the glare of bright LED lights.
A 'Trustworthy Vision,' Born from the Eyevol Design Team's Own Needs
In an era of increasingly segmented user preferences and growing awareness of lens variations, the world of sunglasses is constantly evolving. In this landscape, Eyevol has consistently met market needs while sticking to a core belief: 'If the Eyevol design team wouldn't want it, we won't sell it.' With their solid stance, Eyevol and the Vol System are paving the way for the next generation of vision, and they are sure to garner even more attention in the years to come.
