The Secret to the Proprietary 'FUSION DOWN®' Padding

The padding is the star of the show, isn't it? The sheer volume is obvious at a glance.

The standout feature of the 'Giga Puff FUSION DOWN® Hoodie' (hereafter, 'Giga Puff') is the amount of padding.

We packed it with roughly double the padding of our existing 'REPAIR-TECH®Washable FUSION DOWN Hoodie/Stand Blouson' to achieve unparalleled warmth.

So, was there a demand for something 'even warmer'?

Yes. We developed the 'Giga Puff' in response to calls for a down jacket that's warmer yet allows for greater freedom of movement. We also focused on eliminating cold spots with a stitchless construction, improving durability, and making it easy to care for, including being machine washable.

Let's zoom in on the padding. Can you tell us the blend of materials?

It's 50% polyester, 35% down, 10% acrylic, and 5% feather. This material, which we at Workman call 'FUSION DOWN®,' is a special blend of down and moisture-absorbing, heat-generating fibers.

What's the strategy behind this particular blend?

In addition to the insulating power of natural down, the moisture-absorbing fibers generate heat from perspiration to help you stay warm. The padding is also water-resistant and designed to prevent clumping. Plus, by using less natural down, we're making more efficient use of resources.

Packed with roughly twice the amount of padding compared to previous Workman products.

I heard the down itself is also sourced sustainably.

We use recycled down, which is sourced by dismantling and reprocessing discarded duvets from within Japan.

So 'FUSION DOWN®' is a superior material from both a performance and a sustainability standpoint.

Exactly. 'FUSION DOWN®' also plays a huge role when it comes to easy care. Because it's water-resistant and doesn't easily clump after drying, you can wash it at home without any fuss. It's completely washable. We recommend using a laundry bag and a gentle cycle.

The Outer Fabric and Details That Boost Warmth

Moving on from the padding, could you tell us about the outer fabric?

We use a material called 'REPAIR-TECH®,' made of 90% nylon and 10% polyurethane. It offers great elasticity with its 2-way stretch and has high water-repellency. It also prevents the padding from poking through, which can be an issue with down jackets.

How does it stop the padding from coming out?

'REPAIR-TECH®' has a very tight weave and a strong 'self-healing' ability. It can actually close up small punctures on its own, which is why it's so good at keeping the padding inside.

Thanks to the stitchless outer construction, there's no risk of cold air penetrating through the baffle seams.

I see. So it's the combination of the high-performance outer fabric and the supercharged padding that delivers this incredible warmth. What other features are there to block out cold and wind?

The double-layered, ribbed cuffs and the drawcord at the hem effectively seal out cold drafts. We also paid special attention to the hood's design. Its 3D shape ensures a snug, stress-free fit that stays put during outdoor work or activities. You can tighten the cord to provide excellent protection from the cold, even on windy days.

"Gigapuff" Makes This Winter Way More Fun

High-performance down jackets often look a bit too bulky or technical. But the "Giga Puff" is so sleek and has a really modern, urban design.

I think it looks so streamlined because, unlike most down jackets, it doesn't have any stitching on the outer shell. While the design is fundamentally simple, you can also play with the silhouette by tightening the drawcord at the hem.

The zippered side pockets are also refreshingly simple without any flaps.

The pockets maintain that clean look, but we've added a clever feature inside. We heard from users that "my phone gets in the way in my pocket," so we added a dedicated smartphone divider inside the right pocket. It's designed for quick access while also protecting your screen from scratches.

I believe this is a hallmark of other Workman products as well, but the wide range of colors and sizes is a huge plus.

We offer a total of five colors. Alongside basic shades like black and greige, we've introduced on-trend colors like brown orange, Prussian blue, and chrome yellow.
