In the city, you often see sophisticated businessmen carrying bags from 'BRIEFING'. There's a convincing quality behind why BRIEFING is chosen. This time, we spoke with Mari Tamura from Union Gate Group mainly about the made in USA line that is the root of such BRIEFING products.
"When our representative, Yuji Nakagawa, founded BRIEFING in 1998, he went to the United States with the desire to create a bag brand made in USA inspired by the military. He started by finding factories that met the strict standards of 'MIL-SPEC' set by the American military. It's a brand born from dedication," said Tamura.
Original model, 'PROTECTION TOTE'
In the United States, what was the first BRIEFING bag made in factories that met all the strict MIL-SPEC regulations? We continued the conversation.
"The first model made in USA, 'PROTECTION TOTE', used ballistic nylon[1] for durability against friction. It was inspired by military gun cases in its design.
"It was a self-standing design with thick padding, perfect for transporting documents without bending them. In the 1990s, not many people carried laptops, but it was an ideal item for both business and leisure," Tamura shared.
