THE NORTH FACE is a globally recognized outdoor brand that requires no introduction. Established in 1966 in Berkeley, California, USA, it not only produces gear for serious outdoor activities like mountaineering and camping but also creates everyday items that have been woven into the fabric of our daily lives. This time, we had the opportunity to ask Yosuke Moji, Manager of the Equipment Group at Goldwin Inc., a comprehensive deep dive into two of THE NORTH FACE's most popular backpacks, the Hot Shot and the BC Fuse Box.

Understanding the Roots of the Hot Shot's First Model

First, let's take a look at the evolution of the 'Hot Shot,' a backpack with a rich history, from its early days to the present. Over 28 years, it has undergone remarkable advancements.
'Hot Shot’ was not initially designed for urban use when it was launched in 1995. Originally, it was a compact alpine pack (mountaineering backpack) and was introduced as a lightweight model at the time. Unlike other alpine packs, this model did not come with a frame, it had simplified compartments in the pockets, and it was made of a lightweight nylon material for the times.
