The brand 'EVERGOODS', born in Bozeman, Montana, is making waves with its ergonomically-based design approach. We talked to Satoshi Tachikawa of Sunwest, the Japanese distributor of EVERGOODS, to discuss the brand's unique features, born out of excellent sewing techniques.

The brand was launched in 2018 by founders Jack Barley adds designer Kevin Dee. It's a relatively new brand, just about four years old. An acquaintance from the U.S. told me about these interesting duo, and we became their distributor just as they were starting out. So, we actually launched simultaneously in both the U.S. and Japan.
At the time, the two were in their mid-30s, one of them having a career as a pack designer for the brands 'GORUCK' and 'Patagonia'. They successfully raised funds through Kickstarter[1], producing about 500 of each of two models to start with. Initially, we imported 300 each to Japan, but they were all gone in about half a year. It's been a talked-about brand right from the start.
Production takes place in Vietnam, home to a major hub of backpack factories worldwide. Ordinarily, it would be challenging to find a factory willing to produce these two models in small quantities. However, the factory manager, upon seeing EVERGOODS' design and samples, responded, "I'll make this bag." This reassures us that even from a manufacturing perspective, EVERGOODS bags are superior.
