The Adventure of Dressing in VR 'Real Clothes' in a Digital Space
What kind of clothes would you want to wear in the metaverse?
In the 2020s, the culture of 'dressing avatars' that emerged in the metaverse is an interesting scene where freedom in fashion and aesthetics explode. The avatar culture that celebrates activities in different forms like gender transformation, enlargement, animalization, and non-human forms has the potential to update fashion like never before.
Along with this, the meaning of "the real clothes we wear everyday" should be reconsidered. That's why in VR, the concept of 'Real Clothes', or 'ReaClo', is a new one. Of course, it's a big business opportunity for existing apparel brands.
In this article, we conducted interviews at a 'Real Clothes Meetup', an event where VRChat Real Clothes enthusiasts gather. BEAMS, which entered the metaverse in 2020, offered collaborative events last summer and this summer, making it a home for the 'Real Clothes' fans out there.
We interviewed the organizer, Joner, introduced popular brands and stunning styling exhibited at the past 'Real Clothes Meetups', and also learned about unique ways to enjoy, such as 'link coordination, i.e. wearing the same clothes in reality and VR'.
