Hong Kong-based backpack brand Able Carry is catching the eye of many business professionals and industry insiders. Its appeal lies in a sophisticated, minimalist design that fits right into the urban landscape and a meticulously engineered structure that masterfully distributes weight.
So, how does an Able Carry backpack feel so light and easy to carry, even when packed with a laptop and documents? To uncover the secret, we sat down with Takafumi Kikuchi from Highmount Co., Ltd., the company spearheading the brand's expansion in Japan.

The Search for a Satisfying Backpack

Launched in 2017, Able Carry evolved from "ZIXAG SHOP," a retail store that imported and sold backpacks from around the world. The Able Carry development story began when its founders started asking a fundamental question: Were they truly offering products that they themselves could be satisfied with?
Because they knew the backpack market inside and out, they were able to identify the limitations of existing products and listen to user frustrations. This revealed that the strain we feel on our bodies when wearing a backpack comes not just from the weight of the contents, but also from the bag sagging under the force of gravity.
