No matter how much winter warmth is rumored, winters in Japan are definitely cold. This boosts the demand for functional cold-weather wear. In fact, a variety of brands continue to launch "outdoor clothing for the city," not just hardcore enthusiasts honing their skills in real environments.
This time, we're focusing on the down series “
Helium” by the outdoor brand Peak Performance, which has roots in skiing. The series offers numerous jackets that achieve a lightweight construction of under 320g each while boasting a warmth rating of 700 fill power.
Let’s delve into the appeal of Helium.
Nordic-Inspired Minimalist Design Unchanged Since Its Inception
Peak Performance, a ski brand born in 1986, is approaching its 40th anniversary. Founded in Åre, located almost in the center of Sweden, this area has a long-standing love for winter sports, nurtured by two dedicated skiers who were its founders. Reflecting on those times, Noriko Matsumoto from Peak Performance Japan PR says:“The 80s were during Japan's economic bubble. On a global scale, it was a dazzling time, and most ski items had flashy colors and patterns. We were skeptical of this trend and thought to create items that we genuinely wanted to wear ourselves, which sparked the inception of the brand.”
