The journey of Mizuno's Breath Thermo, a material that has powered countless athletes, began with skiwear. In the frigid environments of winter sports, warmth isn't just about comfort—it's a critical factor that directly impacts competitive performance.
Mizuno zeroed in on the natural property of wool to generate heat when it absorbs moisture. They successfully managed to replicate this heat-generating mechanism using synthetic fibers.

The Fiber That Made It to the National Team's Uniforms

"It's a material that harnesses what we call 'adsorption heat,' which occurs when the kinetic energy of water vapor is converted into thermal energy as it sticks to the fiber's surface," explains Yamamoto. "This raw fiber generates roughly three times the adsorption heat of wool or down. It also traps that heat between the fibers, maintaining warmth for extended periods."
