While inner down jackets are commonplace now, back when this vest first launched, the market was dominated by outdoor and sports brands, with few options designed for everyday wear.
"At the time, most fabrics were slippery and shiny, which I felt made them difficult to work into a daily wardrobe. So, while drawing inspiration from outdoor gear, we set out to create something lightweight, compact, and easy to incorporate into everyday outfits," says Kuroda.
It featured a matte texture, a lineup of basic colors, and achieved a balance of loft and lightness thanks to high-quality 750-fill-power down. The packable design, allowing it to be stored compactly, drew attention as a new and unprecedented type of cold-weather gear.
