Among the various vintage districts across the country, Nagoya's Osu is home to a unique collection of vintage shops. Those familiar with the area likely know about "
the other."
Launched with the theme of being a "total shop for 60s and 70s fashion, music, and subculture," the shop has gone beyond the confines of a traditional vintage store to even establish its own music label.
How has the popular store on social media shaped its history within the city of Osu? We spoke with the store manager, Takahiro Suzuki.
PROFILE
Takahiro Suzuki
Store Manager of "the other"
For 37 years, I have continued to love the fashion, music, and subculture of the 1960s and 70s. Recently, I have also resumed my record selector activities at my own pace.
Opened in 1994, a Specialty Store for 60s & 70s Fashion
The Other began on the second floor of a record shop, eventually transitioning through its second and third locations in the Osu shopping district. How did the store come to be?
“At that time, there were no shops specifically dedicated to 60s and 70s. Having been part of the 60s mod fashion scene in my youth, I wanted to create a specialized store. I knew from the start that I absolutely wanted to open it in Osu,” Suzuki shared.
