When I was in high school, a book titled "ファッション・ライフのはじめ方" was published by Iwanami Junior Shinsho. At that time, I had a vague interest in fashion but had no idea what to do about it. This book was truly a "textbook" for me. It introduced me to the concept that clothes are categorized into various items, that Converse sneakers are a staple, and that fashion trends change. Although I had been wearing clothes every day of my life, this book was my first introduction to the idea that clothes are something you can choose and coordinate on your own.
Afterwards, I followed the book's advice and bought Converse All-Stars at ABC Mart and chinos and cardigans at GLOBAL WORK. There was a chance to go on a school trip in casual clothes, so I wore those items, and a classmate told me, "You look like a college student," which made me oddly satisfied. I finally understood what those people who talked about wanting DIESEL were saying... I felt a sense of a whole new world of fashion opening up to me that I had never seen before.
