Nonoka Sasaki

An author who thinks and writes about love and living together, down to their grassroots philosophy. She lives in the mountains of Hokkaido with one horse and two cats and is a guardian and hunter who chases deer. Her books include "愛と家族を探して" and "自分を愛するということ(あるいは幸福について)" (both published by Akishobo).

What are clothes?
They protect our skin, are used for adornment, and help us move towards the 'me' we want to be. There could be as many answers to this question as there are people, but for me, they are a familiar other that acts on 'me'.
Clothes are a much more intimate presence than friends, because they are always touching my skin. Even the most trusted lover, or even yourself, cannot always touch this extremely personal area of your own body (excluding the ever-present but invisible skin bacteria).
Many people may think they are wearing clothes, but another way to put it is that they allow clothes to touch their skin. Just as we intuitively decide who we do and do not want touching our bodies, the clothes we choose to wear are the ones we allow to be accepted by our skin.
On humid days, putting on stifling nylon clothes or layers of gauze feels unbearable. On the other hand, if there's a blizzard so severe you can't distinguish the boundary between heaven and earth, you might feel driven to reach for a heavy fur coat, like the one our villain, Cruella, wears in the Disney film "101 Dalmatians."
