The Air Jordan 1 is a model well-known to any sneaker enthusiasts. It debuted in 1985 as a signature model for Michael Jordan, often considered the god of basketball, and has come to be renowned as a sneaker ingrained with numerous legends. This time, we spoke to Katsushige Kamamoto, the representative of the famous sneaker shop SKIT, deemed a mecca for Sneakerheads, about the history of Air Jordan 1 and the anecdotes and attractions it holds.
Why is the Air Jordan 1 so Beloved?
The signature model 'Air Jordan 1', born a year after the NBA debut of basketball superstar Michael Jordan in 1984, has firmly established its position in the vigorously competitive sneaker industry. Kamamoto shares his thoughts on the Air Jordan 1.
"I first learned about the existence of the Air Jordan 1 in 1994 when the first reissue model was released. The first pair I got was around 1998, and it was the white x black x red colorway commonly referred to as 'Chicago'."
When mentioning the Air Jordan 1, many people might recall the white x red x black colorway known as 'Chicago'. This image depicts the original model released in 1985 (Kamamoto's personal collection).
Kamamoto's opinion at that time was unexpectedly indifferent but, as he tells it, getting to understand the sneaker's background changed his perspective.
