New Balance 990 fans, rejoice. The much-anticipated “version 6” of the 990 series, the "990v6" is finally set for release. Mark your calendars for November 4th (Friday). Launching on the 40th anniversary year!
New Balance embarked on developing the highest-level running shoe, disregarding time and cost, from spring 1978. Four years later, in 1982, they released the first "990." Advertised as a "990 out of 1000 point performance," the “990” made waves with its innovative design, featuring gray as the main color—something novel at the time—while now being an iconic color for the brand.
Subsequent upgrades include the “990v2” in 1998, “990v3” in 2012, “990v4” in 2016, and “990v5” in 2019. Finally, in the 40th anniversary year of 2022, the decision to release “990v6” was made. Rumors of the “990v6” had been leaked last year, but due to global pandemics, skyrocketing raw material prices, and distribution delays, the release was postponed. Many fans were anxiously awaiting the release of the "990v6."
