Located in Europe, a region at the forefront of sustainability, the outdoor brand "
Jack Wolfskin" continually commits to high levels of sustainability. We spoke with Makoto Kida, the marketing manager at
Callaway Golf Co., Ltd. about Jack Wolfskin's development of sustainable materials and the brand's roots.
Inspired by the Howling of Wolves
"Talking about the beginning of the brand, Jack Wolfskin was established in Germany in 1981. The founder, Ulrich Dausien, was an avid backpacker who was injured by a bear while traveling near the Yukon River in Canada. During his recovery in a nearby settlement, he was inspired by the howling of wolves, leading to the creation of Jack Wolfskin."The brand name comes from the combination of 'Wolfskin,' an idea he had at that time, and 'Jack,' after the writer Jack London, whom he admired.
"There are two reasons for the emphasis on 'Wolfskin.' First, wolves have fur that adapts to harsh environments. Similarly, we aim to create an outdoor brand with high functionality adaptable to various environments.
