Focus on Technology Since Brand's Inception

Can you tell us about the background of the brand's creation?
The origin of Arc'teryx is found in Vancouver, Canada. Climbers Dave Lane and Jeremy Guard hand-made climbing harnesses and started selling them under the brand name "Rock Solid." Due to positive feedback from climbers who used the harnesses, they sent them to a climbing magazine's editorial staff, also receiving high praise, and in 1991 the brand name was changed to Arc'teryx.
Starting with harnesses that applied shoulder yoke bonding technology for carrying bicycles, the brand expanded to backpacks and then in 1998 launched the "Alpha SV Jacket." At its core lies the philosophy of the two climbers: to create items that deliver better performance and protect lives in harsh environments.
The brand's name and logo derive from the scientific name of the archaeopteryx, drawing inspiration from the fearless evolution represented by this ancient creature's ability to fly. This leads to the concept of "Evolution in Action."

Can you tell us the main features of the Beta Lightweight Jacket?
The most notable feature is the innovative "GORE-TEX ePE (expanded polyethylene) membrane," which combines durability and lightness. Additionally, both the outer and inner fabrics use recycled materials, and the inner lining uses dope-dyeing, which minimizes water usage and carbon dioxide emissions, making it an environmentally-friendly product.
Designed for hiking scenes, it features ventilation under the arms for quickly releasing heat from within the clothing and a storm hood that can be worn over a helmet without obstructing your view.
When worn, it offers a snug fit, with a design that considers ease of movement and layering.
How was the Beta Lightweight Jacket developed?
It was developed as a jacket suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities and light enough to be easily carried in a backpack for use as rainwear. By adopting the "GORE® C-KNIT™ Backer" technology for the inner lining, the fabric became more flexible, providing a more comfortable wear and allowing it to be compactly stored.
You also offer series like the Alpha and Solano. How does the Beta series differ?
The Alpha series is designed for climbing scenes, such as rocky terrains, and is therefore highly resistant to friction with rocks. On the other hand, the Solano series is designed for light hiking in valleys and features a two-layer structure. With a knit jersey liner, it offers an extremely comfortable feel against the skin.
The Beta series is designed to fill the middle ground. It is suitable for a wide range of climbing scenes outside of rock climbing, including mountain-climbing in the rain, and can also be worn in town after descending the mountain.
