Sunglasses and eyewear have become staples of fashion. Many people choose their favorites based on frame colors and shapes, but lens technology is also evolving. This time, we take a closer look at the technology behind "Makeup Glasses," a novel concept that allows the wearer to achieve a makeup effect just by wearing them.
Nidec Corporation, founded in Aichi Prefecture in 1971, develops and manufactures products related to vision, ranging from ophthalmic medical equipment and examination/processing tools for eyeglass stores, to the development of an artificial retina system. One of the patented coloring techniques utilized by them is "vapor-phase Transfer Dyeing."
Up until now, the coloring of glasses lenses was done by the handiwork of skilled operators on a lens-by-lens basis. However, with the introduction of this technique, accurate and speedy mass production became possible.
They also launched a new concept "Makeup Glasses" termed "LILY COULURE," which is uniquely dyed at the center of the lens where coloring was once considered impossible. Just by wearing them, they create a rosy complexion around the eyes as if makeup has been applied. For more on this technology, we talked to Minoru Inuzuka, who is in charge of research and development at the company.
