World-renowned mountain athlete Kilian Jornet has launched an outdoor sports gear brand, NNormal. The products are designed in Mallorca, Spain, and tested in the fjords of Norway, where Jornet trains.
Arriving in Japan in October 2023, the brand has been gradually gaining fans. What kind of brand is NNormal? And what kind of technology is hidden in the much-awaited new model Tomir 2.0?

Creating With Respect for Nature & Consideration for the Environment

Kilian Jornet won the Skyrunner World Series title for three consecutive years in 2007, 2008, and 2009. He has also won the UTMB (Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc), the pinnacle of trail running races, four times.
Moreover, he achieved the feat of climbing Mount Everest twice within six days, without using oxygen bottles, radio, or rope, which was chronicled in his book "Above the Clouds: How I Carved My Own Path to the Top of the World" (by Kilian Jornet).

NNormal, launched by Kilian Jornet in 2022, is developed in partnership with CAMPER, a long-established shoe brand based in Mallorca, Spain, under the theme of "enjoying and respecting nature with authenticity and practicality."

The brand name combines Nor-way and Mal-lorca, symbolizing a path of innovation beyond normalcy, named NNormal.

At the launch, Kilian Jornet commented, "We shared a common value with CAMPER regarding the need for new thinking and actions about the environment and outdoor activities.
"We want to remain honest about how we produce our products and the role companies play for society and the environment. We strive to avoid excessive consumption by creating durable products with transparency.
"We need to explore various materials and production processes to minimize environmental impact. It’s a long and challenging journey, but it’s what motivates me and my team to start this project."
Junpei Ushiyama, product manager of Camper Japan NNormal Team, added, "Of course, high functionality is essential, but being sustainable is also a significant feature of NNormal."

NNormal has obtained B Corp certification and is also a member of 1% for the Planet. B Corp is an international certification system by the American non-profit organization B Lab. The certification is given to companies that meet B Lab's stringent standards for conducting business with environmental and social consideration, including transparency and accountability. 1% for the Planet is a global network of over 5,000 companies and individuals who donate 1% of their revenue to nature conservation.
The KILIAN JORNET FOUNDATION, established in 2020, works on mountain environment conservation, supports glacier research, and conducts educational activities.
"We also disclose the carbon footprint (greenhouse gas emissions converted to CO2 amount) of each shoe and apparel category and where they are produced on our website. I believe transparency is another appeal of NNormal."
