The New Balance "MR2002" swung into the scene in 2010, luxuriously utilizing the best technology and carefully selected materials from the high-end line "Made in USA". Its commanding presence and high-tech design quickly became a trendsetter, and today it still retains high popularity, reincarnated as the "ML2002R".
We spoke with Shigeyuki Kunii, the creative director of Mita Sneakers, a key figure in the sneaker scene who is well-versed in New Balance, about the journey of this popular model to its current status and the future envisioned by New Balance.
Creative Director Kunii's 'MR2002': So Comfortable, He Wore Out His Pair
The New Balance "MR2002" was launched in 2010 as the ninth generation of the 1000 series. While previous models "1300" and "1400", born in 1985, used natural leather for their uppers, from the "1500" onward, synthetic leather was utilized.
