In the field of fashion research, how has digital technology brought about benefits? Fashion Tech News has conducted many interviews with researchers, but we want to take another look at the forefront of the industry.
This time, we spoke with Associate Professor Keiko Watanabe of the Faculty of Home Economics at Kyoto Women's University. Her specialization is in 'Apparel Human Engineering' and 'Clothing Structure Studies', and she conducts research and design of apparel products using 3D technology.
This year, the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) clothing size was revised for the first time in about 20 years. This was driven by the need for new collection and analysis of Japanese body shape data, and Professor Watanabe's research had a crucial role to play. She has been involved in data collection and analysis from the early days of 3D technology, and will surely have many recommendations for academia and businesses.
So, we had her talk again about her research and reflect on the relationship between fashion research and 3D technology.
